Detailed Reviews
We recently cycled the Wilderness Trail and spent a wonderful night at Teichelmanns B&B. Upon arrival our wet gear was taken away and dried and we enjoyed a hot drink & home baking. Our rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Breakfast was so good and our packed lunch just perfect. Thank you Frances and Brian for a very special experience.

We picked Teichelmanns for a one night stop on our way north, if only we had known we could have planned it better and stayed longer. We were greeted warmly by Frances and Brian and they had put us in the cottage which was an added treat. Next came tea and home made cookies in the garden. After a lovely sit down with Frances and Brian we settled into the cottage which is very well appointed, spotlessly clean and comfortable. Hokitika is a nice place and after a wander we settled down for a very comfortable night. Breakfast was a treat, a real delight and then we left knowing we wanted more of Teichelmanns’s. Frances and Brian are amongst the most welcoming, friendly and kind hosts we have met during our four months in New Zealand, their accommodation is superb and we really hope to visit again.

This place is a bit dated but has charming hosts. It is located in the centre of Hokitika with several sites within walking distance. There is ample free parking in front of the place. The hosts were very pleasant and helpful. The room was a little cramped with large comfortable beds and a bathroom across the hall. The shower curtains vacuum into the stall but the shower has good hot water as you take a shower. There was some street noise with the windows open. There is no air conditioning but a fan was provided and the room did cool off at night. The breakfast was good and tasty. They provide a beautiful common room with free sherry or port. The electrical outlets tended to cut out after 20 minutes of use.
Overall, it was not good value for money.

After a long, scenic drive from Christchurch over Arthur's Pass, we were welcomed with tea in the garden outside our comfortable room--a perfect respite from the day. The location is convenient for walking to craft and jade shops, and the breakfast was superb. The one caveat is that Brian and Frances have the place up for sale, so no guarantees that their generous hosting will be available next year.

We stayed here for 3 separate nights, in 3 different rooms, as part of our cycle journey and enjoyed our stays so much largely because of the kindness, thoughtfulness, consideration and good humour of our hosts Frances and Brian. We also really enjoyed their company over breakfast so much. Thanks once again Frances and Brian!

We had a wonderful two night stay in Hokitika and Teichelmann's B&B was the perfect place to be. Ideally located and very welcoming. Breakfast was a treat and Francis' home cooking was delicious - especially the plums! I was amazed to see drawings of a Nottingham tram and also Papplewick Pumping Statiion on the wall (we're from Nottingham) and Brian told us of his times spent here in the seventies. Fabulous!

We stayed at this lovely B & B in Feb 2023 before moving on to Franz Josef. The most lovely hosts Brian and Francis. We were met at the door and they immediately made us feel welcome, made us coffee (with biscuits) and showed us to our room which was a separate dorm from the main house. Then sat with us on the patio chatting about our journey down. The room was lovely and had a great bathroom/shower. The experience at the B & B was very personal in terms of our stay which was very warming. Breakfast was great. All in all, a great place to stay whether visiting or passing through Hokitika. We’d stay again if we ever pass through that way.

Can’t recommend the Bed n Breakfast more highly. Frances and Brian were amazing hosts, the bed was super comfy, and the breakfast superb. They have a super house with lots of period bits and pieces. Very centrally located, you can walk all around Hokitika from here

Where to start ? You feel ‘at home’ the minute you walk in the door. The comfiest of beds, spacious rooms with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Frances and Brian are the consummate hosts and offered great conversation, suggestion, guidance and shared so many stories re the history of the homestead and Hikatika town.
The breakfast was hearty and tasty and nothing was too much trouble.

I felt at home, a wonderful bed, soft and cozy, which I could really use after cycling, a bright room and the best thing... a wonderful traditional old house, very well renovated. You only find such an atmosphere in these historic houses, especially when they are so well looked after and the hosts fulfill every wish. Plus a wonderful breakfast with home-made muffins, brewed coffee and whatever else your heart desires. You don't sit alone in the room, as is unfortunately so often the case in B&Bs, no, you sit with all the guests at a large table. That's interesting, that's why you go to foreign countries... to meet people. Wonderful B&B, I can only recommend it!
