Not many places offer vegan evening meals in Hokitika, so I was delighted when I saw this hotel had two options. It is a stunning location overlooking the sea, the restaurant is lovely, the waitstaff attentive and friendly. The food is reasonably priced and tasty, so I'm reluctant to criticize. But our meal was a vegetarian one with vegan options, which meant removing the cheese. In the case of the eggplant it still worked as there was rice and lentils to balance the nutrition and taste. But the vege stack just had the hallomi taken off, no other ingredients added to replace it. I guess I feel a little ripped off paying for things I can't eat.

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff (Gladys) was amazing and offered extra activities around the area for us to enjoy. She always had a smile. The location is fabulous close to the town centre and the beach.

This was the perfect hotel for a one night stop over! We flew into Hokitika from Melbourne, Australia (via Christchurch) and wanted a place to stay close to town for one night before setting off to glacier country the next day. Beachfront Hotel fit the bill perfectly. It's a very short drive from the airport with ample parking, directly opposite a large supermarket and liquor store, a few minutes walk from many restaurants and food options and (as the name suggests) right on the beach.
We booked one of the driftwood rooms (no beach view) which worked well for us as we were arriving late, only staying one night and it was raining the day we were there anyway. As advertised there was no view of the water from our room although there was a nice little outdoor courtyard and you could hear the waves with the door open.
The room itself was nicely decorated and had everything you'd expect plus a kettle and small fridge to make tea/coffee. Wifi was good enough to surf the internet and stream movies with a few little interruptions. Bed was comfortable and the shower had good pressure. The only downside of the room was that there were no windows that opened (only a good sized sliding door). During the day this was fine as we just left the door open but couldn't do this overnight for security reasons as we were on the ground floor.
The reception staff were lovely and check in process was easy. On check out you just leave your room key in a drop box so there's no queueing up or waiting around, which we liked. Would stay here again if I was visiting Hokitika.

The hotel has a great location in Hokitika near the beach and has ample parking spots. We felt this was the perfect stop as we enjoyed the scenic drives between Queenstown and Christchurch. The hotel is nearby many of the popular eateries and shops in Hokitika and it is a nice walk along the seawall/beach to see some of the crazy waves and driftwood sculptures including the Hokitika sign.
We lucked out and got to the hotel during the Matariki celebrations in town so it was a bit tricky finding out way to the hotel because we couldn't go down the main street. The staff at the front desk was very friendly and welcoming.
The room was great, clean and very quiet. The room had a comfy bed, blackout curtains, a refrigerator/tea/coffee spot, an open closet and a small desk. The bathroom was very clean and I was happy with the large shower stall that did not leak.
We tried the Ocean View restaurant in the morning and would recommend not booking with breakfast at this time. The restaurant needs some improvement to the cooking but has very friendly service.
We had a great night's rest at this hotel and Hokitika is the perfect base for exploring the area including the gorge, treetop walk and the lake area. It is seemingly surrounded by beautiful scenery and we really enjoyed our stay.

This hotel was the highlight of our West Coast trip. Ocean View room on the second floor with balcony table and chairs was lovely to watch the sunset and listen to the waves crashing. Dinner and breakfast were delicious in the restaurant with staff going out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Even better we had dinnner vouchers for both nights slipped under the door of our room with $25 special including a free wine or beer. The restaurant is also overlooking the sea. They have a lockable bike shed with charging points for our e-bikes. Thank you, we will be back.

Very comfortable room with sea views if you book the Oceanfront wing. Hokitika is a charming small town and this hotel is very central and convenient for the amazing Glass Blowing shop (watch them make the glass as you shop) and the Kiwi experience which we enjoyed. For food the bakery just down the road is great and Stumpers restaurant is very popular with locals and visitors (the lamb shank was very good). The hotel also has a restaurant with sea views and a decent menu but we didn't try it. We were on a road trip and found the laundry facility in the hotel very useful - a large wash costs $10 incl powder and drying.

I stayed in one of the Driftwood rooms and found it very clean and comfortable. The hotel staff were friendly and professional whenever I encountered them in any part of the hotel. There is free parking at the front of the hotel and the check-in process was very smooth. The room itself was well appointed in neutral colours, a modern clean white bathroom suite and comfortable bed with plenty of storage. I was stayed in the hotel as part of a leisure trip but I think the hotel would also be suited to a business trip. The hotel also has a restaurant called Ocean View where we had an amazing meal in the evening.

Stayed in the penthouse recently. Amazing views, helpful staff at reception, excellent food at the restaurant, excellent location, a very comfy bed. Also an easy website to access for information. However, when paying $400+ per night, I do expect that the liquid soap container in the shower is not empty, that there should not be spider webs on the big front windows, that the glass light shades on either side of the bed were clean, that the small side tables were not dusty. I know it is not easy to keep windows clean that close to the sea, but the windows on the three sides of the penthouse appeared to be rather overdue for a clean.

Unfortunately the Beachfront Hotel would not refund our 1x Night stay made through Booking.Com. The road from Haast, NZ to Fox Glacier was closed due to severe weather on 11/11/24. I advised the hotel immediately we would be unable to make the journey from Wanaka, NZ. Multiple phone calls and emails continually referred to the Booking. Com terms and conditions. Very disappointed. The 'Sunset Motel' in Fox Glacier were fully understanding and refunded our reservation for the night before.

Arrived today after a long drive from Haast. On arrival the hotel looked functional, however, it was soon apparent that it had recently been refurbished as the interiors appeared very new. Staff at the reception were pleasant and helpful. The room was great, the sea view was second to none and although the restaurant was fully booked they accepted us as a walk in (there were two of us) found us a table immediately and we enjoyed a good meal at a reasonable price. Even the bottle of house wine was perfectly fine.
