When in Greymouth, this is the place to stay. Good rooms, nice cosy kitchen, free mountainbikes, big parkingspot, themed interior, near the towncentre and the sea. Definitely the best hostel I've ever been!

We stayed here for two nights, but this place is also nice for a longer stay. Everything was clean and well organised. The kitchen is very complete, suitable for four people to cook at the same time and has large fridges to store your food. The supermarket is at only 5 minutes walk. The showers and toilets are nearby the... More

I stayed at GVB for four nights a week for five weeks whilst working in Greymouth. I've done a bit of traveling, around much of the world, and GVB would be one of the best, if not the best, hostels I've ever stayed in. Russ is a bloody sociable type, and the WOOFers on site were friendly, sociable and good... More

My favourite backpackers so far. I was in a 6 bed dorm which was cosy, and had lots of room with seats and an outdoor patio area. All the staff were lovely and helpful. It was buy one night and the next night half price, which I imagine is an out of season deal, but $39 for two nights is... More

I seldom write reviews but I really want to give a 5 star to Global Village. Stayed for two nights, Russell and Yurie are amazing host together with the staff members. They provide me honest and useful advise, I was picked up from the train station afternoon and I was planning to rent a car the next day to check... More

Globally themed rooms with cozy communal living space and kitchen. They have a hot tub that you can use privately for $5NZD. Water probably could stand to be changed, but felt good on a cold day nonetheless. I'd recommend Global Village. Short walk to grocery and restaurants/bars.

This was the best organised hostel that I have ever stayed in. Everything seemed to have been thought out maticulously. They have a variety of room types, common areas and a well equipped kitchen. Although there isnt tons to do in Greymouth, I imagine a lot of people stick around just because they like the place and the atmosphere so... More

This was the first hostel where I saw grey nomads! People cleaned after themselves and wiped the counter top! The door to the dorm rooms didn't slam! Free tea, coffee, and I think there was sugar in the kitchen. Free kayak and bike rental. Laundry is 2nzd per load and there are plenty of clothesline to dry stuff. I camped... More

I stayed for a few nights at Global Village as the calm of autumn replaced the crowds of summer. There's lots of attention to detail at this place -- the kitchen is well-organized and the spacious dorms have ample storage space. Brightly-painted woodcarvings from Malawi decorate the walls, and are for sale at the front desk; all profits benefit humanitarian... More

During my two week trip on the South Island this was definetly the best hostel I stayed in. Very friendly staff, a nice kitchen, a cosy lounge area and quality beds. In addition they have free bikes and Kayaks to use. The hostel just has a very personal feeling which is really awesome!
