Our visit got of to a bad start as the first room had yellow stains on the ceiling and plaster falling of the ceiling . We were given another room , this one had a huge pipe across the ceiling for the fire extinguisher system, still at least no stains. We were told that the hotel is undergoing refurbishment and...

Stayed for just one night. As the only large hotel in town, it certainly makes the most of its lack of competition! Reception welcome cool, no concierge service, derisory wifi limit. The room was shabby with water stains on the ceiling and plaster missing in some places. On the plus side, it was central to town, there was free parking...

Great staff! Room was dated but this could have been just the cheaper option that we had chosen. The bar manager Brian was absolutely amazing to us. Very, very friendly even though it was a bisy night and he was short staffed. Loved his company and he was great to chat to when we could. The bed was a bit...

This was definitely a low cost hotel. The wifi didn't reach the room so we had to go to the lobby to use the internet. The food in the morning was acceptable but just the standard warming dish buffet fare.

As stated in most of the previous reviews, the motel definitely needs a makeoverm The actual bedroom is ok, even if the decor and design is 20 years behind, but the bathroom definitely needs some fixing. Theres no fan in the bathroom, and as our room was lacated next to the outdoor bar area we couldnt open the wondows without...

We only stayed for one night and that was enough. The room was very old fashioned and the bathroom similar to a caravan's bathroom. The window in the bathroom did not shut. The room was clean but needed TLC knocked down and rebuilt. The whole town was not worth visiting and the hotel was a reflection of the town it was situated...

Parking scarce. Friendly staff. Dirty floors. Only hotel in town with dining room. Bedroom cramped. Old fixtures in bathroom. Food in restaurant quite good, even at breakfast which is not usual in NZ. 2 bus loads of Chinese tourists present for the night so restaurant staff overloaded.

Expecting so much more for the price we paid. Unit was very dated and not clean. Sticky residue on table top and dirty carpet. Parking is 50m away which wasn't great in the rain. Lifts didn't work for a few hours. Wouldn't stay again unless it has a major makeover. Staff needed to sort their paperwork as numerous unhappy people...

The Kingsgate seems to be in a time warp. Once it must have been the latest and greatest, but now with it's stippled ceilings, dated decor and restaurant music stuck in the 1990s, it wasn't very good value for money at $200/night for a family of four. I felt sorry for the Chinese tour group who seemed to be the...
