This hotel was initially just an overnight stay we had booked whilst travelling around New Zealand but from arrival, it just kept on giving. What a little oasis The Copthorne Hotel turned out to be. Its staff, the food in the restaurant and the hospitality were outstanding . Not only did it provide a wonderful resting place to relax, unwind and recharge for the following day travelling but I accidentally left a valuable item there. They quickly parcelled the item up and had it sent to a hotel we were staying at a few days later so it was there on our arrival. A hotel with high standards of how it treats its guests.

The Copthorne Hotel is centrally located in Greymouth. After collecting our hire vehicle from Greymouth train station, my husband and I were permitted to check in around 2pm and off load our luggage. Our room was on the 5th floor with a northerly view up the river. The room was large and the fitout provided room for two bags with open hanging above. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom was modern and shower hot. An A la carte breakfast was included with our accommodation, which was well presented and delicious. Would stay here again if visiting Greymouth.

The area where the hotel is located isn't great. It looks quite run down and the hotel has an unassuming facade. On the plus side the room was comfortable for a 1 night stopover ( our drive from Nelson to Franz Josef) On the minus side the common areas were a bit dated and need a refresh. We stayed on a Sunday night and had realised there would be very few places open to eat so planned to eat at thr hotel. On arrival we were told the hotel restaurant was closed but to try Speights Ale House. As it seemed to the only place open it was very busy and we were lucky to get a table. Ok for a stop over when driving or using the transalpine railway

Great hotel and excellent staff. Although it looks like a 1970’s KGB interrogation unit from the outside, don’t be deceived. The rooms are great, views to the sea not too shabby, the staff are smiley, polite and helpful, and the breakfast was top notch.

Had one night here on a tour of the South Island. Looks very uninviting from the outside but lovely welcome from the receptionist. Very polite, friendly and efficient. Room was great, two queen beds, clean and welcoming. Shower had a fixed shower head but fabulous power so thumbs up. Would definitely stay again.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a trip around New Zealand and wanted to stay somewhere we could take the TranzAlpine train the following day. The hotel is close to the river and has some good views from the higher floors facing the river. During check-in I realised I had a mistake with my booking but the reception staff quickly helped to resolve this. The hotel would be suited to both a business or leisure traveller. I found some of the communal areas of the hotel seemed dated but the rooms itself was clean, comfortable and well appointed with plenty of storage, flat screen TV with plenty of channels and fast free WiFi. The room included a comfortable bed and a large chair to relax. The bathroom was clean with good shower. We had breakfast in the hotel restaurant, Jimmy Cook's Kiwi Kitchen which is adjacent to the reception. The breakfast was very good with friendly service. For those travelling on the train you can store luggage at the hotel but we were told by hotel staff that luggage can be checked-in from 10am at the railway station. It is only a short flat walk from the hotel to station. Overall I was very happy with the hotel and the friendly service provided by the staff.

Very comfortable room. Friendly staff Great shower, TV, coffee making facilities. We had a fantastic view from our room on the 3rd floor. We could see the Grey river and waves breaking at the river entrance from our bed. Air conditioning ?? We were able to open our door to the balcony for fresh air. Great place, I'd love to visit again

This hotel was booked as part of our package on the Transalpine railway. We had no difficulty in checking in to the hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and suited our overnight stay in Greymouth. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was delicious along with breakfast the next morning. All the staff we encountered were polite, friendly and helpful.

This hotel is very dated and in need of plenty of maintenance to bring it up to a respectable standard. See photos. The location is great, very central and you can walk in 5 minutes to anywhere in the CBD. Beds are comfortable. The shower plumbing needs some attention as the water flow out of the shower is less than than input, so there is a build up of water in the shower base which would overflow if you stayed in the shower too long.
