This is the old villa that was the first headmaster of whangarei house ,relocated and set among the most relaxing and lovely layout grounds,it was really relaxed atmosphere welcome was great ,rooms just couldn't be faulted, the cooked breakfast was absolutly superb,I thing the owner must of been a chef from another life ,thanks lupton house for a lovely stay
If you wish to stay near Whangarei but not in the city centre, Lupton Lodge is nicely situated in the outskirts. It is lovely old villa with nice grounds. Only 5 rooms but very homely and good cooked breakfast is included in the room rate. Evening meals are on request and well worth having, especially on a day when you are tired from travelling. Nice wine and beer list to choose from. Recommend this place to anyone on the way up to Bay of islands or on their way home. Nicely situated for travellling around Northland.
We stayed 4 nights on our visit to the Poor Knights Islands for diving. We had selected the Red Room for our stay, and it was lovely, with plenty of space, including a sitting (dressing, for us) room between the main bedroom and the bathroom. Loved the wood floors and the pleasant smell of an old historic home. The verandas were nice for enjoying an evening cocktail. The pool area was nice (though we didn't spend time there). We thought it might be too chilly, though we did see a guest jump in. The grounds are beautiful, though we didn't have time to take full advantage of a stroll. Our dinner was excellent (lamb and salmon), and breakfasts were very nice as well. This was a perfect location for our 3 day trips to Tutukaka for diving the Poor Knights. Away from the busy towns. Andy was a gracious host, and has exceptional knowledge of the area, so be sure to get his advice on outings.…
Pro: Very classy reshaping of a farm, keeps classic elements together with tasteful setting. Huge rooms, furnished with classic furnitures. For once, not the obnoxius wal-to-wall carpet but beautiful parquet. Nice swimming pool, with scented magnolias around. Good breakfast. Con: A bit far away from dining and general facilities (although they offer dinner), a bit of noise form the main road
Andy was so accomodating, he cooked chicken curry with cauliflower rice especially for us as we couldn’t eat rice, so grateful and impressed. He also provided carb free cooked breakfasts for us each morning. We stayed in the main house and loved it. Appreciated a lovely swim as we arrived (towels provided) hot after journey. The rooms were huge, with high stud, but had air conditioning to cool down or heat up as needed. Comfortable bed, plenty of parking. Thanks Andy - we will be back next time we need to stay in Whangarei. Great relaxing place for our business trip, breakfast ready for us at 7.15am so we weren’t late! All the best.
