What a beautiful place this is. The owners, Polly and David were great hosts and very helpful. We stayed in the private cabin over looking the lush green fields. The room was perfectly sized with a comfy bed. We had a private balcony with table and chairs which was just perfect to sit back, relax and listen to some tunes... More

We stayed at this lovely place for 2 nights and it was the perfect place to just rest for one day. The family is really friendly and everything is very clean and modern. It is the perfect spot to visit the abbey caves and the family gives you advises and borrows you equipment. We would hardly recommend this place to... More

After 1 week camping we thought we would treat ourselves to a night sleeping on a bed! So glad we chose this place, lovely rooms, although shared bathroom, great views, friendly hosts and the best bit, Abbey caves are just out of your bedroom down the path! Great gloworm caves you can walk about by yourselves, they have all the... More

We spent 3 nights at this hostel. It was set in very tranquil surroundings. The room was more like a motel room than a hostel. We loved the dog, chickens and ponies. Having Abbey Caves next door was a bonus. What made this place the best was the welcoming and helpful hosts. Would definitely recommend it and will be back... More

It is hidden in the valley surrounding by trees and not in the town centre, but this is the place if you are looking for quiet and tranquil place to stay overnight. David and Polly, the manager will nicely treat you to spend your stay at environmentally friendly place. Nice room, comfy bed, clean shared bathroom and toilet, and communal... More

David & Polly were amazingly accommodating & helpful (even though we'd made a mistake) The accommodation is in a great location, amazing views & fab facilities. It was a great base to explore the Abbey Caves, Whangerai Falls & Tutukaka for the Poor Knights Marine Reserve - could not recommend it enough, you must stay here!!!

Pros: 5 mins walk from the Abbey caves with glowworms, can rent you shoes torch and helmet for the caves for $6, clean, have shared rooms and private cabins but all share same bathrooms, very friendly owners, free WiFi, gorgeous night sky without light pollution. Cons: 15 mins drive from city center (but they can pick you up for $12)... More

What a fantastic place to stay. Quite perfect if you wanna go to the Abbey Caves. You get helmet and head torch there. Clean and quiet rooms. Nice people and animals and quite cheap. You will definetly love this Place! Clean kitchen - you should buy your food in Whangarei in advance!

What a stunning place quite a trek from the town but hitching up to it is incredibly easy. The place is run by two of the nicest people and is very clean. This is well worth a stay! I was made to feel like one of the family!

One of the best backpackers in the north, very hospitable and kind hosts. Excellent facilities, WiFi provided. Caves just a few minutes walk - equipment provided for just $6. Would advise bringing a second torch. Great experience, met many other travelers.
