The Shamrock is an interesting hotel with a lot of history and some ups and downs over time. Unfortunately there seems signs that it's on the way down again. There's quite obvious maintenance issues that are not being dealt with. And there are well meaning staff who seam to be missing out on training. This might seem overly negative, but... More

Popped here for breakfast on our cruise today taking in some of the countryside. Day trip from Melbourne to Bendigo, Ballarat, Geelong and back to Melbourne. This is a old hotel but is still charming. The waitresses were friendly and the service was quick. I had the large breakfast which well and truly adequate and very nice. Located right in... More

For something Different from days gone by, built mid 1800's, fascinating history, step back in time, great food. Also a great city to visit, lots to see and do, very relaxing if you just want to chill out also.

Our standard room was very small but clean with a modern refurbished bathroom. The hotel certainly has some historical merit but is in urgent need of updating. A loud mechanical noise from the area above our room (205) late at night was somewhat disconcerting. Car parking arrangements in an adjacent building were a little awkward but helpful staff from the... More

Gracious old building with leadlight windows in foyers, historical photos on display; room large enough with plenty of hanging space in wardrobe, comfy armchairs and elegant small table; comfy bed, good bathroom; good breakfast included. Some furnishings a bit tired; curtains badly stained; creaky floorboards and thin carpet in hallways; street parking very short term.

Great looking venue and bar that promised a little bit more then it delivered. Enjoyed a drink and snack on a late Sunday arvo with quick service that was appreciated. Interesting that we had to wait to be seated when there was only 5 customers in the place. We only wanted a snack to eat with a drink. The calamari... More

Took the family here for a quick lunch. The service was fast and friendly and the food was as expected - tasty pub style food. We both had the battered fish and chips with salad which was s large size. Kids also enjoyed ice cream.

Spending lots of time doing researching and finding out this hotel was great due to the history of Bendigo. No greeting after meeting the receptionist at beginning. She offered us a ticket for the breakfast, however she should also inform us the time for breakfast, she seemed she could not talk a bit more to guests! Well, that's fine! We... More

Even if you are just passing through make time to drop in and have a frothy. This place is a delight. Upstairs on the balcony on a sunny Summer afternoon or a fresh Autumn evening can't be beat. Plenty of domestic and international beers on tap. Giddy up!
