The George is in a great place to visit Ballarat, in the middle of an impressive heritage lined street it offered great bar, dining and accomodation. Our twin room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. There is also private parking at the rear through a swiped gate. The night we stayed there was live music (and a free cocktail!) which...

Went for a visit and beer. Amazing building with heritage bars and friendly staff. Did not dine in the restaurant but amazing space in a sun filled glasses annexe. Well worth a visit to see a beautifully restored building

Thank you Auscoach. I do hope that you have the opportunity to return to our hotel with friends. Our restaurant features a Private Dining Room which is perfect for groups from 10 to 25. It is a very popular experience with our locals.

Great venue. Had visited a few times. Mostly, staff very good. However, on a couple of occasions a couple of staff members would be good to remember that smirking to each other in a rather put down approach ... just because a customer does not say something in their own way or speak according to themselves does not make it...

We arrived on December 23, late afternoon, and were immediately upgraded to a room in The George's Sister establishment, next door. The room that we had booked was right above the main entertainment area and the receptionist advised that as it was Christmas break up night, it would be a very noisy experience. We were extremely pleased with the change,...

We chose the George Hotel in Ballarat because of its colonial-style with a modern feel. We weren't disappointed. The hotel sits impressively on Lydiard Street in the heart of Ballarat. Its easy walking distance to numerous restaurants, the beautiful old-style cinema and the Central Square Shopping Centre. Ballarat's main attraction, Sovereign Hill is a short 10-minute drive away. Metered parking...

Thanks cmmf11 for your detailed review. Lydiard Street North really is a very impressive streetscape and our designers certainly did very well with the recent renovation of the hotel. The frosted glass featured in the ensuite is less practical for friends or colleagues. We do have other room options including the Family Room and the One Bedroom Executive Rooms which...

First time in Ballarat and impressed with the presentation and service provided at The George. Only a 5 minute taxi ride from our motel, this hotel has a lot to offer including affordable meals, well priced drinks, and pokies. A live entertainer was also strumming a few beats during dinner.

The hotel is a beautiful old building that is situated on one of the more streets in Ballarat. The room was neat and tidy and the reception staff were friendly and provided some local tips. The facilities cater to all needs and with several great spots to eat/drink nearby you can't go wrong.

Thank you for your 5 STAR review swmitch69. Our hotel was renovated on a grand scale just a couple of years ago. Probably the biggest renovation since its opening back in 1854.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ballarat's second oldest hotel, the original George Hotel building was erected in 1854. The George Hotel is located in what is known as one of Australia's most important historical streets and is opposite the Art Gallery of Ballarat, walking distance from Ballarat's Visitor Information Centre and a few doors down from the local cinemas. Over the past 3 years the hotel has undergone a major refurbishment to bring its hotel style rooms, including some apartment style accommodation, to a four and half star standard. The hotel is now also home to the Ballarat RSL with memorabilia displayed within the hotel. Newly refurbished bars and dining areas now operate seven days and at the rear is a new upmarket lounge which operates weekends for guests and discerning patrons with strict standards. One of Ballarat's most popular meeting places, The Lane offers a street cafe and alfresco dining, alongside the Lane Restaurant (popular with foodies) and Heritage Bar & Restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner 7 days a week. ... more   less
