I stayed at Backpacker Hub last time I was in Launceston in 2007, and found it to be quite adequate. On my return in 2010, it was a different story. Left my son (24) here for a few nights. He's Canadian, speaks english, and still got ripped off. He was slightly amused by the antics of his roomie at 4am, but that grew stale pretty quickly. Worst was that they charged $10 deposit for the key to this awful room, then refused to return the deposit when he returned the...

We arrived to be told that the downstairs bar area had been flooded so was out of action for our stay. We stayed in a double room, which was an ok size but didn't smell too nice. All of the furniture and decor was dated. One of the windows was broken with only the fly screen to stop anyone getting...

The hostel website describes itself as a "culmination" of three former Launceston hostels. A slightly unusual perspective, but there you go. Having stayed in quite a few hostels in Australia & New Zealand, I'd say that this one would be at the lower end of the scale, but with potential.
