The Lakes is in a fantastic location over looking the city of Mt Gambier. The motel room was comfortable enough but the bed covers are a bit cheap and nasty. We were very disappointed to find that there was a restaurant that wasn't operating (even mon a Saturday night). The water in the bathroom/shower had a lasting septic type smell... More

Wasn't the most pleasant experience, however the receptionist said she would have a plumber come in immediately and fix the problem. Too late for me as I was there on business for a night, but hopefully it fixes the issue for the next person.

I chose the motel based on the images on its website - it looked like a relatively modern and fancy/comfortable place to stay. The rooms were more like tired-old three star roadside motel rooms with few comforts - felt like going back in time a bit. The views from the rooms are nice though. Arrived on a Thursday evening from... More

We stayed a night and were disappointed on a few levels. Firstly its no Resort that's for sure, yes we understand name changes ect, yet no facilities at all, so its basically a motor inn, that's over priced, not worth more than $100 a night tops. No food restaurant, bar, pool, spa. Its quite a walk to town for food.... More

Nice motel, friendly staff. There are great views of the city from the balcony, and also of the lake area within a short walk. The pool is nice, although things can be hard to find as there is a lack of good signs around to tell you were the rooms and amenities are located, this is a problem if you... More

We spent 2 nights here as we meandered our way from Adelaide to Melbourne with a 2.5 year old. After checking in, when we were given the password for the free wifi, we went to room 12 which is on the second 'tier'. It was just what we needed, a double bed for us and a single for our daughter.... More

I disagree with the review calling this place "a dump"! I spent two nights here while on business and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Admittedly if you do not have your own means of transport it is a fair distance from restaurants, but hey, it's right on top of the hill and there are great walks along the rim of the... More

Second stay in a year here while on business. The staff are super friendly & accommodating. Whilst the rooms are not fancy, they are warm, comfortable & clean. Great views looking over the city from the rooms. Close to the Blue Lake for a morning walk. Note that the restaurant is closed but it's about $10 for a taxi into... More

We booked a room at this place about 8 months in advance because it stated that there was a bar & restaurant. Also because it self described as a 'resort'. All far from the truth - when booking in we were told NO bar & NO restaurant & that there was no advertising otherwise, a lie - check Hotels.com. The... More

It's a very large complex and might have been worthy of the title resort in 1970s/80s. It is definitely faded but it's on a hill, near the lake and it is as clean as it can be given its shabbiness. It's fine as somewhere to stopover. Our room was only $150 for 2 of us so definitely budget motel.
