The restrooms were dirty and very old. The staff did not open the reception on time in the morning. I would not stay another night here. There are no parking spaces. Everything seems a bit old. There was no tv and the internet only worked in the commun rooms. Don`t stay here unless you absolutely have to. It`s only 2... More

I have stayed here before and it was great, but I was disappointed in my second stay. The kitchen was tidy but the tables were super sticky and only 1 hot plate worked out of about 12 hot plates. We stayed in room 4 which had no windows and the air conditioning did not work so it was hotter in... More

Okay place. Staff was friendly and helped point out some things to do. Working wifi was nice. The room itself was okay. They had these skylights which woke you up at about 6am because of the light coming through and no way to cover them. Room also smelled a bit weird, but did have aircon. Kitchen had dirty dishes in... More

Pros: Friendly staff, spacious, quite cheap. Cons: Not so clean, very old, weird smell in the room, noisy. We have been woken up at 6 by the sun because there was no blinds. If you have another choice you should preferably avoid this hostel.

This is one of the best hostels I stayed in. Very friendly staff. The Greyhound bus arrived in Mackay around 11PM, after closing hours of the reception, but I called beforehand and they opened up for me. I was lucky to get a free upgrade to a private room, which to a backpacker is like winning the lottery. Room was... More

Try not to stay here if you can help it. Very frustrating stay. Terrible cooking quarters. Old. No parking available. Beds and linen old. No detail on a lot of things. Rooms smell dirty. Open light covers to roof attack. Beware could be snakes in building.

Stayed here for just one night on my way down the coast. I was in a Private room which was clean and came with air con and even a mini fridge in the room! The hostel is really quirky and fun with crazy jungle themed murals everywhere. The communal areas and kitchen were clean and had almost anything you would... More

I chose to stay here because of the price and it is true you get what you pay for. The room was ok. Bed was quite uncomfortable. Bathroom facilities were in poor condition. Communal kitchen was extremely messy due to guests not cleaning or washing up. I couldnt handle the late night noise of other guests who had no consideration... More

This place is the best backpackers in Australia. It's friendly, spacious, clean and has excellent amenities. I found the tone of the place is set by the warm welcoming face of Cheryl at reception and continues. With a large kitchen area, good bathrooms and a very relaxing deck area, geckos is a deficit for and return visits I will make.... More

Stayed one night, couldn't wait to leave. The kitchen was filthy, people leave sinks full of food scraps pots and pans and anything else they use to cook with. The benches and stoves are left covered in food splatters, there's little wonder I saw cockroaches in the hallway and stairs. The place is dark. Nearly every light bulb or tube... More
