We stayed in a studio for 2 nights. The room was comfortable and the hotel well situated for exploring the area, we visited Cape Foulwind and the seal colony as well as Denniston coal mining area. We had an upper unit with a small balcony, nice view of lawns and the room was fairly quiet. Less positive aspects are that the room is very dated and a bit shabby. Also, the internet was poor at times. Otherwise, OK stay and friendly service.

We stayed in the disability wheelchair accessible room. Check in was easy and very friendly. The grab bar for the toilet is on the left. The grab bar for the roll in hand held shower is on the front wall along with the shower controls. The motel supplied a shower stool but we brought our own. There is also a niche on the left side of the shower for toiletries. The motel was clean and pleasant with enough room. We did not use the small fenced in patio area. We had enough room for our suitcases, The motel is located on the southern edge of town but it is an easy walk downtown if you are inclined. We would definitely stay there again should our travels bring us to Westport

This is a slightly older style motel, but overall it was good. Check in was very easy and host was friendly. Easy walk into town and plenty of off street parking

I had a 1 bedroom unit which was at the front of the property and i was concerned about the traffic noise, but it was fine.

Couch in the lounge was very comfortable as was the bed.

Shower had good pressure and hot water.

Our room was a really good size, well heated and very clean.
We were away from the road so nice and quiet.
The lady at reception was lovely and very helpful regarding local restaurants and eateries.
Would definitely stay here again.

I was lucky enough to be upgraded so ended up in a 2 storey unit. I stayed in unit #2, although it was only just off from the main road it was a quiet unit and very clean & comfortable. Had a nice big TV downstairs and fast free wifi, no issues and will likely stay here again next time I am in Westport

We escaped to the West Coast of New Zealand. Stunning scenery plus working our way up to Granity where my grandparents started their married life in late 1800's.
Lovely quiet motel, very clean great friendly receptionist.

We stayed here only a few days ago and would happily visit this clean comfortable motel again. Although there is not alot going on in Westport the motel was a pleasant place to spend a night enroute to Christchurch. The owners were very helpful and obliging offering us a selection of rooms to inspected before making our choice and then suggested a number of restaurents where we might like to eat.

Very good place to stay. Clean and tidy. Room large and well equipped. It seemed to be equipped as a disabled room although neither my husband or myself are, so it was very large with a large bathroom. Nice touches in the room, table to eat at , radio as well as good television with Sky, good kitchen area with all mod cons, laundry room, balcony which overlooks the side road but well fenced. Good parking facilities. As our car was absolutely filthy dirty after the gravel tracks to Franz Joseph Glacier we borrowed a hose pipe and brush to clean the car off, that was also a nice touch on behalf of the owners.

Westport is a quiet, old fashioned sort of place with not much to choose from for a good evening meal, but the owners suggested a little place just opposite the hotel called Currtino's, a strange looking, bright yellow house. The food was superb however and cooked from fresh with lots of vegan/vegetarian choices, an absolute delight to me after many boring meals. The omni choice was just as good. Highly recommended.

Unpleasant welcome and just as bad send off.Mr Grumpy who checked us in lacked people skills.Made no effort to converse other than cursing the computer because it wasn't doing what he wanted it to do.When checking out once again no conversation other than telling me where to sign the payment. The west coast is renowned for it's friendliness, but we certainly didn't find it at this motel.
Other than that we had a great weekend in Westport being involved in the marathon where we met some really nice locals.
Certainly wouldn't recommend this place to our friends or family.

We agree that the annual Marathon in Westport is a great event. It is our busiest weekend of the year and because of this we don't have as much time to converse with our guests as we normally would. The majority of our Marathon weekend guests are repeat guests who re-book from year to year and enjoy coming back. We regret that this guest felt our service fell short of our usual high standard.

Westport is a rather unpretentious beach town and none of its many motels were anything extraordinary. However, one of the better ones is the Chelsea Gateway Motor Lodge. It is clean and well-equipped, located on the main highway into town and the price is right ($90 New Zealand dollars). In our case, Westport was just an overnight stop in transit from Abel Tasman National Park to Paparoa National Park. However, while in Westport we did enjoy a visit to nearby Cape Foulwind to view the resident seals.
