Myself and my husband went to stay in Prospect Lodge for 2 nights during a recent trip to New Zealand for our honeymoon. Before getting to Prospect Lodge we had been staying in hotels and so it was a wonderful change to stay in a B&B. This place is a couple of minutes drive outside of a lovely little place called Te Anau. From the moment we arrived Joan and Ross were very welcoming. They were kind and chilled and we instantly felt relaxed. The lodge itself is wonderful and the views from it are simply stunning. Joan makes a yummy breakfast so you won’t be leaving the place hungry. We would have loved to have gotten to stay even one more night if we could. Hopefully we can get back again in the future as this really was a wonderful little find in a lovely spot. Would highly…

This was by far the BEST place we stayed during our recent trip to both Australia and New Zealand. First of all you will be "taken" by the view from the back of the lodge and secondly, you will LOVE the hostess--we want to thank Amy who provided warmth, a great breakfast every morning and was a joy to spend time with. The accomodation is a work of art and I felt like we were in a home that was so tastefully done and elegant yet comfortable at the same time. The room and again our view was fantastic and it was a very short drive into the town of Te Anau. We felt like we did not want to leave the grounds or the house for our pre-planned touring activities and hikes!! Would give then an A+ on everything....thank you again Amy for your hospitality and make sure you contact me…

Prospect Lodge is an absolutely delightful B&B located 4-5 kms outside of Te Anau, gateway town to Milford Sound and Queenston, NZ. It is a gorgeous country home designed and built by locals Ross and his wife Joan who’ve farmed this area for decades. The house is built with huge picture windows all overlooking Lake Te Anau and the majestic mountains beyond. The two guest suites are beautiful. The house was designed beautifully by their interior architect daughter Rebecca. Five Star rating—don’t miss this one!

Prospect Lodge is an elegant B&B just outside Te Anau. Our room was spacious with a wonderful view. The bathroom was fantastic; I wish I could take it home. Breakfast is lovely. Joan, our proprietress, was very helpful with dinner reservations.

I rarely use this word because no place could match up to this place in our well travelled life. But it is. The Lodge is an architects dream, eye popping gorgeous; the hosts are perfection from Joan who is an amazing gracious, funny, warm, great cook to Ross who is full of agri knowledge, funny things to stay and kindness. They are the best hosts we have ever experienced. We want them to come and visit us in Virginia or St. Croix. They are that amazing. You want them in your family. The house is unparalleled— you have to go and see it to believe it and this morning they helped arrange for us to have a local pilot pick us up on their back lawn and take us to Dusky Sound and Doubtful Sound— truly the trip of the life time. DO IT! There were wonderful touches throughout the Inn a…

Hosts Joan & Ross are delightful, the view is unsurpassed beauty, Joan makes a mean and elegant breakfast, the rooms are sophisticated and uncluttered, and the surrounding landscape is peaceful and dramatic. Prospect Lodge is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed around the world. As a bonus, those interested in residential architecture will be amazed. The owner’s daughter led a team of interior and exterior architects who created a modern, clean-lined masterpiece of concrete and softer materials that make the most of the remarkable location. And yet it still retains a cozy, homey feel. You won’t mind the few minutes drive into town... this place is amazing.

My husband and I spent 2 peaceful nights at Prospect Lodge and couldn't have been more pleased. Our room was an end unit with floor to ceiling windows on 2 sides affording us a magnificent panorama of the lake, mountains and Te Anau town, as well as the beautiful garden on the lodge grounds. The decor is stylish and elegant in the guest and shared spaces. We slept well in the well-dressed bed and also had comfy chairs in the room and table and chairs on the patio to relax in. The shower was outstanding and the robes were so soft and plush it felt like wearing a teddy bear. Joan and Ross are warm and welcoming hosts and we had the pleasure of meeting their lovely daughter Rebecca also. We enjoyed chatting with the family over drinks and canapes before dinner. Breakfasts were…

Prospect Lodge is about 10 Kilometers out of town on a hill that overlooks the the southern part of Lake Te Anau. Joan Cockburn is a wonderful hostess that knows the town very well. There are only two rooms available here so reservations are a must long in advance.

Near the end of a two-week road trip thru New Zealand, my wife and I had a two-night reservation here. We drove in from Queenstown in the mid afternoon; the GPS in our rental car had us make a turn off the highway to a gravel road, where a simple block sign that read “Prospect Lodge” let us know we were on the right path. After a few twists and turns, we pulled up to an über-modern house on a hill overlooking Te Anau. We were met by a friend of the hosts, who were out of town and not due back for a few hours. This is a residence, with two guest rooms, one on either side of the house. Ours was the smaller; a single room with en-suite bathroom and a roofed deck that overlooks the lake. The house is absolutely amazing; and the view of the lake and the mountains across the…
