This place is pretty cheap, reliable, and it has everything you're looking for in a hostel: a cleanly communal cooking area, reasonably fast free WiFi, friendly staff, nice shower facilities and decent rooms. The hostel is a few minutes' walk from Lake Te Anau, and a great launch point for trips to the Milford Sound. If you're looking for cheap... More

As a solo traveller, I found this hostel an okay place to stay, however beware that the dorm rooms are VERY tight and it is next to impossible to reach plug sockets located behind the bunk beds (at least from what I experienced in my dorm). The bathrooms are good, and the communal areas including the TV room, kitchen, and... More

Hi Holly, Thanks for staying with us and leaving your review. We have a number of dorm rooms here and each room is a different size. We're looking to refurbish a number of a rooms in the coming year and room layout and plug access are two issues we're considering. Guest feedback is really important to us in shaping our... More

We enjoyed our stay at the YHA- our twin bunk beds were comfortable and the shared kitchen area was spacious for the amount of people staying. There were plenty of pans and 3 hobs. My only criticism was there was only 1 oven and no complimentary tea/coffee which other hostels offer. I didn't feel like there was enough indoor furniture... More

Hi Georgina, Thanks for staying with us and we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We understand that one oven may not be many but space in the kitchen means we have to prioritise other amenities instead. We actually do offer free tea and coffee at the hostel but only in select months outside of summer. We stop this in the... More

Great location and welcoming friendly staff. Very nice common area with gas fireplace and comfy sofas and super nice inclosed patio. Close to grocery store, restaurants and bars. The only thing negative was the shared bathroom was really cold.

If you came to see the glowworm caves and milford sound this is a cheap and clean place to stay. Compared to many other hostels i have stayed at this place was the cleanest and very important it was quiet at night Its located near a lake and a park so its nice to... More

Basic but good rooms. Very nice kitchen and lots of character in the communal areas. Lovely private garden too. Very central to the rest of town so easy to get everywhere. The staff seem to be quite knowledgeable although I was disappointed with the place they recommended we eat. Would definitely stay there again.

Stayed in a double room with ensuite bathroom through a Grab One deal for $99 (2 nights)! Can't complain at that price, decent location and Te Anau is the perfect place to explore Milford, Doubtful etc.. Room was clean and tidy but basic (expected) friendly staff.

All-around decent hostel. Good facilities, cute TV room with bean bag chairs and free movies and yoga mats. Beds are decently comfortable.
