Detailed Reviews
Small valley camp. Closest you can get to the fjords while not being a DOC campground, so location was very prime. Pots, pans, bowls, and some cutlery are provided. I'd recommend bringing your own knife though, the ones provided are fairly big and dull. Facilities are clean. Campsites are well maintained.
Cons: Kitchen is small, with 3 burners, two sinks, and one picnic table. Bathrooms are also small. Three toilets, two shower stalls, and two bathroom sinks for the whole campground, and at times outsiders can pay the campground to use their facilities, so it may be a bit of a wait. No wifi.

Thank you for choosing to stay at the camp and pleased you found everything to be good and clean. We are only a small campground of 12 sites and the only fully serviced campground on the road to Milford Sound.

If you plan to kayak in Milford Sound or some day hikes like Lake Marian and Key Summit, you MUST book your stay in one of the tidy cottage units here. We enjoyed a tranquil four nights with more than adequate kitchen equipment, a firm mattress and a surprisingly excellent shower. You’ll be only about 20 minutes from the Divide, 40 from the Homer Tunnel and just about an hour to Roscoe’s kayaks or a cruise in the sound. And, maybe the best perk - only a short walk across the street for a post-hike dip in the Eglonton River while gaping at the view up the Valley. This place definitely under promises and over delivers!

We had spent 3 nights in the hussel and bussel of Queenstown and was heading to Milford Sounds but did not want to spend the exuberant amount of money for 1 night at the Sounds. We found Eglinton Camp which was 1/3 of the price and only 56klms from Milford Sounds.
We arrived there on dusk. The owner greeted us and had our room beautifully heated for our arrival.
We slept soundly due to the serenity of the location and woke to beautiful and peaceful surroundings. It's not a five star motel but for the price it was certainly a fantastic option for those travelling on a budget.

Covid has reduced visitors at Milford Sound to a trickle. The DOC Eglinton valley campsites, usually crowded with camper vans, are now almost empty (Feb 2022).
Knobs Flat offers much more than the DOC campsites. It has lovely motel units and a serviced camping area, in a stunning location, and provides the ideal base for day trips on the many local walks and tramps.
We stayed for six nights. Our self contained motel unit was excellent, with a comfortable bed, good gas cooking rings (we took plenty of our own food), hot shower, and friendly, helpful hosts. The style of the unit was lovely too. Thoroughly recommended!

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. As you say there are other choices with the DOC campgrounds, but we like to think we offer something more than just a space to park your vehicle and by having the self contained units it adds a bit of comfort while you explore this amazing location. Eglinton Valley Camp is a hidden gem. Thanks for your review and take care.

Lovely, peaceful stay. We booked 2 nights in one of the cabins as it was the perfect spot in between Te Anau and Milford Sound. Great location to travel to Milford Sound from and back, especially during the colder months as the roads can be a bit unpredictable with the weather. Extremely peaceful and private.
Loved our little walk out to a nearby waterfall just out from the property too!
The heater in the room was fantastic (chilly nights) and warmed the cabin up quickly. Loved the gas stove and 'old-style' kettle! Perfect for an off-the-grid stay and to get away from reality. We loved it :)

Pleased to hear you were able to stay nice and warm in your cabin, as we had our first lot of frosts for the season while you were here. Thank you for the review.

Stayed at more than one campsite at Milford Sound but this one was far the best one for me. I was surprised how clean and nice were the facilities. Also, the staff was exceptionally kind and friendly - felt welcomed really fast.
You have drinking water access at your non-powered site and a bench as well. Even though there is no wifi but there is still phone coverage so you can use your if you want. Given it's a small campsite, the facilities were close to reach and lit during the night so you won't have to use headlights.
Totally recommend it because you won't be disappointed after your stay.

We stayed 2 nights in our campervan. It was very quiet, no one else was on site so we had the showers and kitchen to ourselves. It was super clean and the heaters kept it nice and warm, perfect for when you're staying in winter.
Very friendly and helpful staff on site.

The camp hosts were very friendly giving us full information about nearby trips such as the current traffic travelling hours and milford sound cruise time schedule. The cabin is spotless clean with all needed cooking utencils. There is waterfall track took us about 1 hour in return to the camp, and it’s worth to try although the shoes might get a little wet and it is slippery. I would love to come back again.

The bad evaluation comes from their refuse to refund fee due to cancelation. We booked this vamper site because the next day we had booked a cruising tour on the Milford Sound. This cruising tour was canceled due to bad weather conditions. The booking fee for the cruise we got 100% refunded. 👍. Now I asked Eglinton Valley Camp to cancel and if it would be possible to refund the booking cost. Answer was just no with the hint of their cancelation policy which says cancelation within 48h has no refund. But what should we do if the weather changed within 24 hours. So I really miss here a customer orientation because we where not responsible that the weather changed.
So what could you learn: if you book Milford Sound cruise always take into consideration that the weather changed and it us canceled. This happens often in that region. In this case dont prebook at Eglinton Valley Camp as they have no good customer orientation. Missing customer orientation is the worst a company can have. Therefore only one star.

Good afternoon As the road was closed unfortunately this guest chose to change his plans, despite our campground still being open and accessible . Yes, if we were closed or unable to be accessed like the cruise we would offer a full refund but as it was your choice to cancel your stay with us our cancellation fee does apply,

After spending 4 days camping without the luxury of amenities, it was time to get the body refreshed. When in cellphone coverage in Te Anau we made contact with Eglinton Valley Camp to find out their availability for a night's stay in our camper. We were warmly greeted by Dawn & Warren (Camp Managers) and then shown the facilities and told we could park up anywhere.
It turns out we were the only motor campers in for that evening so had the place & amenities to ourselves. The amenities were spotless and the best thing was there was no extra charge or time limit on the showers! The kitchen is well equipped with gas hobs but with limited power, there is no microwave.
The campground is in a beautiful area surrounded by native bush & birds (the robins were very inquisitive) and a great spot for exploring the region. We would definitely go back again.

Hi it really depends on a lot of things so I can’t accurately tell you but allow 2 hours and be mindful of avalanche warnings that close the road. You really need to wait until the day as the weather changes regularly
