Rakiura Lodge was a perfect place for my wife and I to stay while we explored a part of Stewart Island, aka Rakiura, and nearby Ulva Island. We stayed in the studio which occupies all of the upper floor. It is very comfortable open space with a full kitchen, two beds, a small dining table, a nice bathroom, comfortable lounge chairs, and a love seat/small couch. Our first morning there we awoke to many birds singing to welcome a new day. Evidently they have a basinette or similar for a family with a small child or infant. We did tour the lower level which has two bedrooms (each of which can sleep four) with a nice lounge that is shared by the guests. There is a secluded back porch with picnic table. I will include some pictures taken with my cell phone. It's a short walk to downtown Oban. We had no need for "service" at Rakiura Lodge but it's my understanding that help was available if needed.. Rakiura/Stewart Island weather can be wild at times but nothing can negate the beauty and relative seclusion of Rakiura Lodge.

Great place to stay, excellent service as we were collected from the Ferry and dropped back. There are complimentary cars that you can use. A small but perfectly fine kitchen and use of the communal BBQ area. Its a really a treat to stay here as the team are so friendly.

This lady is wonder woman. Nothing is a problem. Jo is the best! Easy walking distance to lots on the island, plenty of room at the lodge for larger groups. You need to go and experience the island and it's people and to do this properly you need to stay here to learn.

This was the perfect spot to stay after the Rakiura Great Walk for the group of 15 of us, four families, seven kids. Comfortable beds, great showers and plenty of space. Plus very close to the centre of Oban, a pleasant stroll down the road. Thanks so much Tracey for transporting us to and from the track and for finding my wife's precious pendant that had fallen off in the rush to leave on New Year's morning. Thanks also to the team at Rakiura Lodge for working through our wee booking mishap - it all worked out very well in the end and we appreciated the service you gave us.
