Set on three hectares of rolling hillside with a wondrous view overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the mountains, Sherwood looks out over this extraordinary landscape, the light playing across the rocky slopes throughout the day. It is close enough to Queenstown to walk, bike or catch the bus, yet far enough away to be peaceful. Our guest rooms traverse the humble luxury of a lakeside studio to the comfort of a one or two bedroom apartment and cater for any traveller seeking atmosphere and authenticity. You'll find the sheltered central garden perfect for spontaneous leisure, sun drenched breakfasts, late afternoon cocktails or a fireside sing-along - while the surrounding bike track and kitchen gardens, provide many a hidden spot for a picnic or snooze. Our culinary team specialises in fresh, seasonal, soul food harvested from our own kitchen gardens, orchards and surrounding farms - while the bar team curates an ever-changing selection of independent craft beers, fine natural wine, and rare spirits. We have a yoga and meditation instructors plus a selection of massage therapy offerings, along with an ever changing line up of live music, film, writers and artists in residence. Everything we do is about reflecting a sense of place, a connection to nature and a moment in time.

Detailed Reviews
We booked 3 nights in a Queen bunk bed room for 3 adults (couple and 16 year old son). The room size is adequate with room to store away your clothes and belongings etc. The room was comfortable, clean and uses recycled materials as part of their eco friendly image. The bathroom fixtures and fittings are outdated and definitely requires an update. Our basin was quite stained which wasn't particularly pleasant. I wouldn't stay here again for 2 reasons. First of all there is no TV. I actually did not realise this until we had checked in - my mistake as I should have paid more attention when making the booking. Secondly, the WiFi is soooo slow. It's just about ok for general browsing - there is some lag now and then but you can get over it. However if you want to watch a video, forget it. It'll be constantly buffering and you'll just give up. The WiFi is free - you get 5gb per device per day.

A truly wonderful hotel, run by friendly, welcoming staff. The location is perfect, near Queenstown and a short drive to many of the nearby attractions.
The rooms are cosy and comfortable. We had a Lake View room, which was marvellous and outside our room there was plenty of birds and wildlife to watch.
The food is fantastic; we ate breakfast and dinner there a few times in our stay and were delighted each time. We also visited their working garden to see where much of the produce originated. A really nice touch. And the drinks menu was small but perfectly formed.
We made use of the laundry service (great) and used their in-room entertainment (iPads with Netflix - also great).
But it was the people who made the stay so good. All the people working there are so welcoming and it was a pleasure to enjoy their company. It felt like we’d been invited into a warm, happy home and we felt privileged to stay there. Thank you Sherwood!

My partner picked the Sherwood very quickly based off a handful of photos online. However, those pictures don't really do justice to just how good the place is to stay. There was some information in the rooms saying that the property had been renovated from an older 80s style hotel and what the people at the Sherwood have done should be commended.
The rooms are really well set out and understated with funky furniture, lights, rugs and fittings while foregoing a TV and only providing a pretty versatile music box is a brilliant touch. It's a massive cliche but that really made us slow down and relax by not having too many distractions.
The restaurant and outdoor areas were also really good (and warm) spots to sit around and hang out if you needed a break from the people down in Queenstown's city centre (this was virtually a fortnight before COVID-19 lockdown and it sounds like things have changed quite a bit since then). It's also very close to the walking/mountain biking trail along Lake Wakatipu if you want to go for a wander along the shore.
While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, we found it to be a brilliant place to stay for a few days and really chill out.

Even though a little far from city center, the location is beautiful, rooms are cozy and we loved our stay there for 4 nights. Hotel has its own garden where they grow their own veggies and their restaurant serves delicious food. It is an eco friendly hotel with no TVs in the rooms, but they provide tablets with Netflix if you need entertainment (you wont feel a need though)

+1
This was the perfect base for our 4 nights in QT . It’s nicer being away from the hustle and bustle of the town Centre and we could cook our meals every night . There’s are 2 hot plates - no microwave or oven . The rooms were large and very comfortable , free coffee and tea , lots of fresh towels and there’s loads of parking . We caught the bus into town for our activities as the bus stop is right across the road and takes only 5 min . You just pay the bus driver with cash - much cheaper and less hassle then paying for parking . There is a communal area where you can eat your meals and there are lots of outdoor and indoor games to borrow . There is a restraint which looks very nice as well . We took a picnic and sat on the lawn at the front of the hotels restaurant to enjoy the view of the lake . We even got our washing done for only $20 for a huge load . It’s a peaceful place with a great vibe .

Location quite far from town center to walk. Be sure you have rental car to mobilize you. Car park is free but if its full, you need to park outside, and reception should informed customer about where to park. Room is clean but no TV.

A lot of consideration went into the development of this hotel and you realise this the moment you walk into your room. The welcome board of notes explains each carefully thought about design consideration for the rooms - great touch point and sets the scene for the stay.
The adaptive reuse of a pre-existing lodge works well with Sherwood’s honest industrial and utility aesthetic. The room suites are designed well with the kitchenette dividing the living and bedrooms and the through design allows natural ventilation flow.
We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the restaurant which were all exceptional. Congratulations to the team behind this hotel, I’ll be returning again and again.

It was sooo good to get away from the plastic, sterile experience on offer from so many hotels and motels today, particularly in high volume destinations like Queenstown. Sherwood has such a warm, welcoming feel from the moment you check in. The restaurant setting is inviting and the food sensational, both dinner and breakfast with plenty of Vegan options on offer. We also loved the sustainable theme of the rooms as part of bringing back to life an 80's motel. If you want the modern, plastic, shiny accommodations options on offer don't stay here, however if you want a truly authentic, genuine experience with people that genuinely care and enjoy sensational food then Sherwood is a must stay destination.

The Sherwood is in need of some tender loving care. The room was big enough, but tired, rather dark and poorly appointed, with no TV, phone and other basics. Staff were super friendly and helpful and on a positive note, a major effort is made to recycle everything. A small vegetable garden was a novel twist.
The hotel is a good hour walk into town along a beautiful track along the lake, but it is not easy to find and access.

This property looks like an upscale motel and it actually makes me think they took over an old motel and made it this eco-friendly hipster hotel. The structure itself is rather normal and well looked after, the rooms are furnished with sustainable materials and with taste, but for example the bathrooms are really very shabby.
Some easy improvements could be adding some light points in the rooms that make the environment more welcoming (there is a strange mix of bulbs with warm and cold light) and fixing the corridor between the rooms, which is a bit scary.
The rooms are quite noisy, when the neighbor takes a shower you hear a really loud noise that wakes you up. It is also located in the airport's landing and take-off airspace, so from 7 am to 8 pm you can hear a lot of airplane noise.
On the other hand, the price is really good compared to the average of Queenstown accommodations, so if you are looking for a comfortable and reasonably well-kept place at a good price, this is definitely the hotel for you.
Again in relation to the quality-price ratio, it offers good services (several car parks available to customers, a sauna to be booked in advance at no extra charge, coworking spaces, tap water available in the restaurant from which you can stock up for the night, etc.).

Kids love staying with their parents in a lodge bunk room! The excitement of climbing up to the bed says it all! In order for us to allow a third person(child) to your booking - feel free to contact us directly!
Hoping to see you soon!
The front desk is open 24hours so no problem with an early departure. Regards.
Jenny sorry for delay. You could ride your bike along the lakeside track. Or the road which is busy as it's main the access route to Queenstown
There is no shuttle from hotel but a cab would cost under $50.
