This place is very well kept and cleaned. The location is very convenient and they offer a good variety of perks, my favorite being the free hot tub! Staff are friendly and helpful, and other guests were also cool. Only drawback I can say is the Wi-Fi, most of the time it's slow and sometimes it doesn't work.

I have stayed in this hostel on numerous occasions in the last 10 years. The location is perfect, the price is highly competitive and the staff are fantastic, welcoming and extremely helpful, especially Jim who I have spent many a happy night with.

We stayed at the hostel for a night and everything worked fine with our super spontaneous booking. Staff was friendly and the double room was small but clean and provided a small TV. Toilets and showers are very old fashioned but on purpose so it fits, most importantly, they're clean. Big plus: Every night from 6 p.m. you can go...

Of the six lodgings we stayed at in our South Island trip, this was the poorest in terms of creature comforts. And we stayed 3 nights (!) from 29 to 31 August 2016. To start on a high note, this hostelry is in a perfect location for what we needed: just a short walk up the gentle slope to Skyline...

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to review us, we appreciate all pointers and feed back as we aim to improve. Just a quick correction on room numbers- the units you described actually sleep 5 total (triple room and double room) with a shared kitchen and bathroom just for that unit ,a feature that not many other backpacker hostels...

Firstly the bad: The premises are run down, and badly need in need of renovation. The reception smells of mould, the hall way in the sleeping area smelled like feet and BO, and the bathrooms were not clean. I paid $75 a night for a private room with shared bathroom. The walls are paperthin and I could hear conversations going...

Sir Cedric is not a 'bad' hostel. But it's not a good one neither. Not really clean, the kitchen in the dorm is a really bad idea cause the dorm are always smelly. The hot pool is really nice, and the little balcony is a good spot to have a beer on the sun during the summer. But that's it....

Hi there, Sorry you did not like the kitchenette set up in your room. We find many of our guests enjoy having private kitchens and en-suite and we find this stops our 2 main kitchens and communal facilities becoming too busy! Had you made our staff aware at the time of your stay we could have moved you to a...

Stayed in a double room for 8 nights and was sooooo delighted to leave! The room was so tiny, could barely swing a cat in there. Bed sheets were clean but carpet was filthy, hadn't been vacuumed in months by the looks of it. And the 1st thing I noticed when i walked in was a big blood stain on...

Unlike some other reviews here I found the staff to be lovely - friendly and really helpful. The problem with this hostel isn't the staff it's the other people there and the conditions of the accommodation. We stayed in a double room which was I guess okay - there was a kind of heater attached to the wall which was...

Hi there, Sorry to here you did not enjoy your time at SL. It does seem to us that most of your problems are with other guests actions/ conversations. As this is out of our control we cant really do too much about it. However, any issues with the hostel itself, such as communal facilities can always be brought to...
