Having had a trip to the UK cancelled due to Covid we decided to spend a week in Queenstown. We chose the YHA on the Lake Front one because of the amazing views of the Lake and two it's only a 6 minute walk into town. We had an en suite room (YHA have gone up in the world) which was clean and warm (two heaters) which was very much appreciated as Queenstown was cold. The kitchen was well resourced and always clean with plenty of room in the fridges and freezers. The staff were always friendly and very helpful. We would stay here again, actually we will stay here again.

Great location, lovely reception staff, our suite done up with modern amenities, comfortable bed but... The floor above us creaked whenever someone above moved, the shower curtain flapped (just make it a bit longer and wider), no vent in the bathroom, doors that banged during the night, no working elevator to help get bags up 2 levels. A pity that the enjoyment was taken by some things easily put right.

Dear Ross, Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your stay. Hopefully you spoke to someone about moving rooms as it doesn't sound like you had the most peaceful nights. Unfortunately, we had to install those heavy fire doors in line with health and safety. We have tried to reduce the noise by adjusting the closers and have put signs on each door asking guests to close them quietly. We do have vents in every bathroom so I will check today to make sure they are all working. I can also understand your frustration about the lift as we were equally frustrated that the person servicing the lift has taken so long to order a new part. This is on it's way, along with a specialist installer who is flying down here from Auckland. It's certainly not ideal but we had to close it off for the safety of our guests. If you return, we can ensure that we put you in a quiet room and I have faith that the lift will be fixed. Kind regards. Sue Fairclough, Hostel Manager

Great spot for our family of 5. In two separate rooms. All the essentials plus more In a great location. Would highly recommend. Nice and clean. Friendly helpful front desk. Particularly enjoined the eftpos operates laundry and not having to run around looking for coins and or tokens.

This is a great hostel with an equally great location. It faces out onto Lake Wakatipu and was a very short 5 minute walk into town along the lake. We made a last minute booking for a private double. The prices were definitely on the lower end for central Queenstown, and we felt that we definitely got our money's worth! The room and showers were great. The only issues was that we found that guests in surrounding rooms could be heard very clearly, but we're not sure if that's because of the thin walls or because they were being very loud in the hallways (something the hostel can't control of course). There is some free car parking at the hostel, otherwise there is also heaps on the road very close to the hostel. The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in room 18, a 4 bed mixed dorm at the front of the property with a balcony, for 1 week. That room is slightly separated from the main corridor so was a bit more quiet, and there was a small single shower and toilet nearby, although the main bathrooms were a bit further away. However, no matter where you are in the hostel you'll hear the doors slamming shut all the time, there's no quiet way of closing them. The room was pretty spacious, with lockers (bring your own padlock) and a mirror. Really good heater in the room but no blankets provided, although you could rent one at recpetion. The kitchen was large and spacious, with 3 separate cooking areas, lots of hobs, a few ovens and microwaves, toaster, fridges etc. However, things are quite difficult to find in that kitchen, keep looking and you'll get there! The cutlery and utensil drawers are labelled as such, but there are other unlabelled drawers next to them that have sharp knives and other useful things! They don't have handles on them though so I didn't even realise they were drawers until my last day! Loads of dining table either end of the kitchen, with a separate lounge room with sofas and massage chairs. A bit of a walk from the centre, but not bad, it's beautiful alongside the lake. There are very few parking spaces at the hostel, but loads of on-street parking right outside, although spaces can be hard to find if it's the busy season. The stairs leading to the bedrooms is very steep, but I think there is wheelchair access around the back.
