Heartland Hotel Queenstown, set in a distinctive A-frame building, is often praised for its charming atmosphere and stunning views. The hotel's prime location near the town center is a highlight for guests, although the value proposition is occasionally questioned, with some guests feeling the quality doesn't quite justify the cost. While the cleanliness and service receive accolades, particularly for the helpful staff, travelers have noted the rooms can be cramped and in need of updates. Amenities like outdated bathrooms and the absence of air conditioning are also areas of concern for some visitors.

We had a pleasant, friendly reception on our arrival. We were able to occupy our room early which was clean and fresh. A cooling fan was keeping the room cool which was a nice welcoming touch. This is a large hotel with rooms at different levels and with different views but we were lucky to score a lake view with our own little deck. The hotel is in a good location with a 10 minute walk downhill to the main bar / shop / restaurant area. We have stayed at this hotel previously and recommend it. There is a restaurant and bar on the site but we did not use it.

The room was great, quick to heat with 2 queen beds - both comfy. The bathroom had a bath and the shower had great pressure. We arrived early and the room wasnt ready - no problem I confirmed check in time was 2 and we arrived back just after. 1 person behind the counter with 4 people in front of me. Eventually another person arrived to help check quests in and when we got to the counter our room was still not ready. A little annoying as we had somewhere to be and I wanted to change. Arrived at breakfast the next morning only to be told our breakfast was not included. I advised that it was and who could he ring to check. I got a pretty blank look so I turned around, walked to reception and told the young lady what had happened, she asked for my room number, looked it up, looked back at me and said yes it is. Well I know this but do you think you could go and tell the person on the door... no apology geez, The breakfast was good after that, the next morning it was a lot busier and breakfast was not so good. Eggs benedict arrived without any butter for the toast and no wilted spinach at all. Parking was underground and on first come service. Good luck turning around if the car parks full. Location was great, 5 minute walk to the centre.

We booked Heartland because they offered a family room at an affordable price in a good location. The hotel is only a short walk from the lake. We booked the family chalet which has a bathroom and king sized bed downstairs, a kitchenette and 2 singles upstairs. This allowed us to spread out and have some space. The room itself was tidy and clean but very tired and well overdue for an upgrade. The carpet is stained, wall coverings are peeling, curtain ties broken, shower temperature handle needs tightening. However, it was clean and the beds were comfortable which are the main things I look for in accommodation. We did have a couple of issues. One was the doorbell going off randomly and, on our last night, it went off constantly. The manager attended right away and removed it. Also, our door was not shut properly by housekeeping after the serviced our room and we arrived back to our door wide open. The door did need a good slam to close, and we made sure to test it before we left in the mornings. Nothing was missing and the manager apologised and offered us complimentary drink vouchers as an apology. She was very kind and I appreciate her wanting to make things right for us. Another thing guests should be aware of is that parking is limited and is first in, first served, so you are not guaranteed a park near your room or even on the property, although there is free street parking.

Kia Ora AucklandGal88, Thank you for your review and feedback. It is great you found your room clean and comfortable. Apologies that the door had been left open after being serviced and with the doorbell constantly going off. It is great the manager on duty went out of her way to make things right. Kind Regards, Natalie

Nice mid-price hotel close to town. What made it great was the outstanding welcome at reception, the customer ficus of staff and their really helpful approach. Late check out was no problem, left bags while we were off hiking were placed in our rooms ready for us and we were back in the same rooms which made it really easy at the end of our big hike. Really great service from a decent hotel.

We stayed at Heartland for 4 nights early in October. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were very clean and so quiet. Comfortable beds and good facilities. Price was comparable to other places we have stayed and dinner was delicious. As a family, we chose the dinner in the earlier part of the evening, as the deal was very good, with free mealfor children under 16. Breakfast also was free for under 16. Hotel quite close to town, within walking distance, and the Lakeview rooms had a lovely view. Only negatives being the shortage of parking and climbing stairs to our units. Other than that, our stay was very enjoyable, and we thank Heartland for making it so.

I booked the room through Booking.com and after 20 minutes I arrived at check-in around 4:00 pm. Sue, the manager on duty, told me that there was no clean room and that I had to either wait an hour to be cleaned or pay extra for a clean room that is more expensive than the one I booked. Since I work in a luxury accommodation business, I asked him why I had to be responsible for them not having the room ready if it was 4:00 p.m. and that they should offer me the room that is ready at no extra cost. She really took the time to contradict everything I said and was really adamant in making it clear to me that it was not their responsibility if I booked through Booking.com and that they would not offer anything to compensate me. Every time I spoke she repeated the same speech, which in the end made me waste more time because she still hadn't told the Housekeeping team to clean the room. When I finally told her that I wouldn't pay for a more expensive room that was clean, she was finally kind enough to tell the team to clean the room and it turned out that the room was already clean! Why didn't she check and organize everything as soon as I checked in? The other receptionist, a gentleman, he was nice and polite and seemed to be keen to fix the issue but the manager took over the situation.
Such a terrible management skills! Such a lack of customer service! All accommodation businesses here in Queenstown appreciate being chosen and offer excellent service to captivate guests but here it seems that they want to scare them away. I will never choose this accommodation again or recommend it.

The room was $200 per night and had a broken fire alarm system that let off a loud and high-pitched sound every 10 seconds. When we alerted hotel staff, we were told there was nothing that could be done. Would have expected better for the price.

It was nice enough, and for what you pay it was pretty good. The cleaners came really late in the day though, when you have been out all day and just want to put your feet up at 4pm the cleaners come knocking. The beds were comfy, pillows not so much but you can’t expect too much from quite cheap accommodation. Parking I can see can be an issue, we had a park right outside our room so had no issues. There was no fan/ventilation in the bathroom which was odd. There was a deck off our room which was lovely to sit on and check out the views

Stayed here for a Birthday trip in a Chalet Studio King View Room. The room was spacious and the view was amazing. Very friendly and attentive staff. We had the buffet breakfast which is well worth it, everything from porridge to home made waffles and I defy anyone to be able to eat one of everything. The room was warm and the heating was very easy to adjust. Full black out curtains. Bathroom was adequate.
Position was great with ten min walk into the centre of Queenstown, bus stop and the Station where most trips went from.
There is a 5 mins walk up hill on the way back.
TIP get a Bee card for the bus $5 and use the bus from the airport, only $2 each one way and they come every 15 mins.
Warning parking in Queenstown is bad so park up at the hotel and walk or bus.
Would recommend this place and we will be back...

We were given lake side room straight away. They did not demand anything and there were no extra charges. May be if the room are fully occupied on the lake side you may have to settle on the other side. As others pointed out it possible to have a lovely view if you walk to the lake side.
