Reading some of the reviews I'm not sure we were at the same hotel!!! We arrived tired and a wee bit grumpy after a long day. But the friendly helpful and informative welcome made us feel right at home. We arrived at our room just as the sun hit the Remarkables and the Earnslaw chugged past. Completely magical and revived... More

Rydges is undergoing a renovation (and it is much needed) but don't let this put you off. The location of this hotel is perfect - within walking distance to everything and with the best views of the lake and across to the mountains! The rooms are old and the beds are pretty soft (which is good if you like soft... More

The hotel is just a short walk from shops and restaurants but the most important thing is the view from your room and at breakfast, check out the pics!! You can go for a walk by the lake and and play with the kids in the park just in front of the hotel!

Grand exterior with upscale restaurant/bar with terrific views. Our budget double room was spacious but quite dated. It overlooked the car park at the back of the hotel. Comfortable bed, clean linens/towels. Bathroom was old in style but clean. Liked the location - short and enjoyable walk to the center of town. Found a small supermarket there and stocked up... The hotel is in great need of a complete renovation. We got a great last minute rate which included the buffet breakfast. The breakfast was a good standard. As long as you don't set your expectations too high then it is still worth it for the views and location. Just don't pay top $$ until the renovations are complete. I'm... More

Looks nice in pictures and seems lovely from the outside but it's very dated inside. The hotel staff were lovely and helpful and our room itself was nice and had a beautiful view but the bathroom needs updating, the shower sprayed everywhere. The deck was shared so no privacy and it was rotting and mouldy. There was no sky tv,... More

when we arrived after a long trip from Christchurch after a flight from Auckland we were tired, we went to check in and asked where we the car parking for the hotel was, and was told basically good luck, the car park is full you will have to park on the street, we ended up parking far up the road... I normally check reviews on any hotel prior to booking however was in a mad rush and unfortunately paid the price! To start tho the hotel staff were all polite and helpful so no major criticism there. The hotel itself tho is tired and needs a major upgrade. For $300 a night we would have expected a room large enough... More

We stayed here for 6 days mainly to ski but also to do sightseeing. We got a suite with lake views and WOW words can't describe waking up to that everyday. It was like a post card. Just beautiful. The hotel is doing renovations so some parts were closed. We went to the fireside bar for drinks and dinner a... More

Stayed for 4 nights, it's pricy and a little away from the city center. There are many others nearer to city. The pillow was way too soft, caused shoulder pain. So limited TV channels, No complimentary drinking water in the room, Noisy, drilling work was done at the entrance in the morning about 830am, woke us up. House keeping people... More
