I am currently staying here and the room was booked on my behalf as part of a conference. I would not stay here if I had a choice. The hotel and the grounds are very tired and in serious need of an upgrade. Arrived earlier than check-in time and could not eat at the restaurant as it was closed (seems like it's been closed for quite some time). Was told I could use the facilities while waiting for my room, but the spa pool was out of order, the sauna was out of order, and the gym was pretty dark and uninviting. There were two functional private spa pools that were not in use, and I asked if they could be made available for use instead of their usual public one. Was told that they would let me use it for a "discounted rate" of $99 for one hour. If they had any decent customer service, they should have made one of them available to compensate for their facilities which were mostly out of order. Was also told that if I wanted to use the room before the 3pm check-in, I would have to pay $40. Again pretty poor when most hotels would let you use the room early if it was available within 1-2h of check-in time. Finally got to the room and although it looked tidy, the bathroom still had a stench and the room just had a stale smell - not sure if it's a mouldy carpet smell. I am here for work so wifi is important. Unfortunately the wifi signal in the room was also terrible and keeps cutting out, so have to go to the reception area to get a good internet connection. The only thing going for this hotel is the amazing view of the river. This is supposed to be 4-star but I have stayed in plenty of 3-star places and this is pretty bad even for a 3-star. Do not stay here if you can help it. Plenty of other options in Queenstown or even across the road.

Great aesthetic, and lovely staff however for the price we paid (Exclusive suite) very underwhelmed with items out of order and lacking luster. Good location if you have a car to travel and Ubers arent too badly priced.

My rating of 'very good' takes into consideration the amount we paid to stay here. This was the cheapest of our 12 accommodations in NZ at under £100 equivalent. We actually felt an element of sadness as the hotel has clearly had a much grander past and is suffering now, either through lack of investment or changes in customer demand. We noticed that visitors to Queenstown are in the majority younger people looking for the thrill experiences, so perhaps a hotel on the outskirts of the town originally designed for the more discerning traveller is no longer what people are looking for. The Dining room for example is grandly furnished and has amazing views across the river - you can imagine a fine dining experience here being very popular , but now the restaurant is closed for evening meals and just opens for breakfast. Such a shame. We were advised by email that evening meals were no longer available so we were prepared for that and as there are other places close by it was not a problem for us. Our room was very spacious and had an equally spacious balcony. It was bigger than many other rooms we had in other accommodations. True, it was dated and tired but the bed was comfortable, clean and we slept well. Fresh milk was easily available at reception in a small glass bottle for in room beverages - I prefer that arrangement - the little plastic packets of milk are not environmentally friendly and fresh milk always tastes nicer. The walk/ hall way to the rooms from reception to the 1st floor was in a very poor state - this gives a very poor impression and badly needs redecorating. Breakfast was ok - not amazing, but for the money paid we felt it served its purpose well. The staff we saw were all very friendly and accommodating. There is no lift in the building and the gentleman on reception offered to take our cases up to our room as he could see they were quite heavy. It will be interesting to see what happens with this hotel over the coming years, we do wish the current team well as clearly things are not easy for them at the moment.

I stayed here and at first was amused by the idiosyncrasies and wowed by the views which are superbly spectacular. You will see this in the photos (NB. Food and wine was supplied by me and obtained outside the ‘hotel’) However, the ongoing ‘due to staff shortages’ excuses started to add up. The room wasn’t cleaned, the restaurant was unexpectedly closed (for months/years it would appear - but you are only told on arrival!) I was assured that coffee was available in the mornings from the ‘gleaming’ machine I could spy. Alas, it was unexpectedly broken the following morning and the next and nothing close by was open (yes I like my morning coffee) The ‘ensuite’ had public toilet feel with dispensers for soap and shampoo. The fridge had no milk because ‘due to milk shortages’ (you get the picture) The spa water was grey and I was relieved I didn’t have kids with me because the ‘modern Roman bath’ pool, spa area was dangerous (however we did manage to sneak two clean towels to take to our room and found a chilled water dispenser which reception had told us didn’t exist.) Speaking of reception - there is 1 person on staff at a time. That’s it. Finished. The response to our room not being clean was the provision of a sponge (cut with scissors into 1/3 of its original size) All in all - this is a backpackers. It is not for discerning clients as it’s website/trip advisor advert states. It is no longer luxury. It is in a poor and sorry state. Each room is individually owned (condo) and the upkeep is fractured to say the least. I’d be embarrassed to see International travellers stay here and assume this is a NZ standard. We do so much better than this.

Bad service, dirty glass windows The windows of our room and the breakfast area were quite dirty. The floor around the swimming pool was extremely dangerous, marble stone, slippery! We paid NZ$ 30 which was far too much for what was offered. No fresh bread, toasters not working. I booked the breakfast the evening before so should have gotten a discount of $3 per person. The $6 were credited to my card BUT a couple of days later again reversed. Dinner service was also not available and that is a must when you are located so far away from town!

A friend and I stayed at Nugget Point Hotel for four terrific nights February 23. We had a suite overlooking the river which was spectacular. It’s definitely worth staying away from Queenstown which is like a mini Auckland. Nugget point is by far one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Take no notice of negative reviews. For someone who prefers good taste, style and heritage over a chain hotel this ticked all the boxes. Parking is free, staff are exceptional. I shall return. The dining room has outstanding views and the swimming pool is out of this world.

Two features stood out with this hotel- as the title points out, the most beautiful balcony view I've ever enjoyed, (gorge-ous in the truest sense) AND the quiet, relaxed and removed location from the hustle, bustle and parking challenges of the in-town (Queenstown) alternatives. Staff was most helpful and friendly. Convenient modified in-room kitchen in the spacious room helped in that the restaurant was not yet up and running. The pool facilities added to our enjoyment. Some signs of faded elegance, but the (historical) charm made up for that.

As others have mentioned, this hotel must really have been something back in the day. Like some old-school glamour. Unfortunately that day has passed. There are no MASSIVE things to complain about, just a lot of little things that add up, and that you don’t expect in a place that looks like this: fridge that buzzes so loudly we covered it with towels and cushions, restaurant closed without warning, no air-conditioning in the room, no windows either - if you want airflow, the balcony door is the only option, and there are no screens. Carpets, furniture, all very dated and tired. No milk in the fridge, 30 bucks for a buffet breakfast that was lukewarm and felt like an offering from a much lesser place, etc. The pool and spa area is lovely, though a little over the top. But its beautiful location away from town is a massive plus, and that river and mountain view? Really, really amazing. With some love and work, this place could honestly be top-drawer. Right now it feels slightly un-cared for, which is a real pity, because I bet in her heyday she was an absolutely grand old dame.

Good value for the time and we booked last minute over the NY holiday period. The view of Shotover river is honestly spectacular but this is the only real redeeming feature. Based on this I would only recommend a room with a river view. The rooms are a dated/sad/bare. We missed wine glasses, an ironing board for the old iron and sky TV. The Toiletries in large dispensers were feel like using public toilet soap. On a positive note: the view really is great, the rooms are very spacious and we had a peaceful/quiet sleep. The spa looked gaudy and we didn’t have to go swim. Restaurant was closed at the time
