We had a private ensuite family room (sleeps five across two bunks. The room was spotless. In fact the whole hostel was very clean and comfy. The location is unbeatable - right on the lake in the middle of downtown. Views from most rooms of the lake. The kitchen is clean with amazing views - with breakfast window bench right along to enjoy the sunrise. Staff are really helpful and friendly. The hostel is very family friendly - we had three generations together. Our older parent had an ensuite double room which was even better than our bunk room!

I unfortunately had to cancel my trip so I did not end up staying here, but my 5 stars are for the amazing staff who assisted in the booking process. I have traveled the world and this team is one of the best I have ever come across as far as customer service goes. They went above and beyond to accommodate my needs which is greatly appreciated. They made the reservations very seamless for me, and I just wanted to thank Chris, Shawna, Naomi, and Holly.

Absoloot was hands down the best hostel I’ve stayed in. Staying in plenty of hostels around the world, I was throughly impressed with the cleanliness, location and staff. The staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful, always going out of their way to make sure that your stay is comfortable. Rooms being spacious, plenty of storage and comfortable beds. Kitchen with a view to make you smile every time you walk in. Would Absoloot recommend staying there 😁

Can't really fault this hostel. The staff are wonderful and always eager to help and make any improvements. I love the little comforts that hostels don't usually provide like free towels and hairdryers, ect. The hostel is super friendly and social but not in your face, which I love. It is also by far the cleanest hostel I have stayed in over the past 6 months backpacking, kitchen and shared spaces are cleaned multiple times a day which contributes to guests being respectful of this awesome space! Can't forget the view!! - overlooking the lake and in the centre of EVERYTHING! Will be back, thank you for having me!

The staff are all incredible and can't do enough for you. The housekeeping team has to be the most friendly, professional bunch I've ever met. Shaun, the owner, is always on top of things, looking to improve where needed and reception are so helpful, with sound advice on any questions you might have. Facalities are clean and modern and the hostel is situated right in the middle of town, so everywhere's super accessible. I've loved staying here so much I always come back whenever I'm in the area. Ka mau te pai!

The review I posted below still stands from my experience but adding the amendment that after a little time past, the hostel said this noise was an isolated incident and that despite saying they are in town, they have never had such an issue with the music noise from the next-door bar as I experienced. And because of this, they offered a full refund if I removed the review. I didn't feel comfortable doing that so let them keep their money but have met them half-way by updating my review. Original review follows: "Horrifically noisy! I paid for my own room - the most expensive price I've ever paid at a hostel in NZ or around the world. The Irish bar played live music with the doors open until almost midnight on a Wednesday. No ear plugs were going to get close to dimming the noise. I get the central location but I should have saved myself $130 and stayed in a dorm that isn't subject to the thin glass and feeling like your bed is in the middle of the bar itself. There's loud city noise and then there was this experience! When I queried this the manager Chris presented details that he got wrong and when I pointed that out to him, he didn't bother responding - it's been 10 days. For example he said this was an isolated incident....that city music must stop at 10pm (not what his staff said or noise control), that I should have told hostel staff - however their in-room information says they will only deal with in-hostel noise - I did let them know in the AM though - and that you have to call noise control after 11pm for noise external to the hostel (so clearly this is a problem...noise control says it can take around 2 hours to respond). Never again would I stay here - I accepted the unstable internet that didn't work all evening and the hairs in the bed (which freaked me out somewhat and I noted someone else has mentioned these in a review) but the level of noise was just too much. They should sort out their insultation and glazing at $180 - $210 for a room. It will be sad if Chris comes back on this review to defend things and present the wrong story again but there's nothing I can do about that. They try hard to make it a nice place though."…

Response from Shaun Kelly, General Manager at Absoloot Hostel QT
Responded May 1, 2023
Hi There, Thanks for providing your detailed review. Whilst we sincerely apologise for the interruption you experienced during your stay, we cannot reiterate more that this was an isolated incident due to the continued impact of local council's Streetscapes Project. Access to a local bar's front entrance was cut off for the night due to the street upgrades that have impacted us for 2yrs+, thus they had to use their rear entrance consistently (which is outside of normal operation). There are council by-laws in place with regards to disruptive or undue noise, and any complaints need to be investigated thoroughly before any consideration can be made. There is also consideration needed for the fact that we are in a downtown location, and as such guests can/should expect some general town noise associated. Our general manager attempted to both explain this, as well as attempted to understand if the noise you experienced was undue or excessive. He also went above and beyond and spoke to multiple operators in the area to understand what had occurred. Unfortunately his initial email seemed to antagonise you further, thus he waited until my availability as owner/operator to discuss what had occurred and the appropriate response. We have appropriate insulation and double-glazing on all windows, and provide free earplugs for guest use as well. We offered a refund for your stay because after investigation we did find that the noise was excessive and unreasonable. This can only occur after the fact once we have established the parameters and an appropriate course of action. Again, we appreciate your issue, but we do not believe the level of criticism directed at both the premises or our General Manager is reasonable given the issue was outside of our control, and management went above and beyond to understand and resolve the issue after-the-fact. Regardless, we hope you enjoyed your time in Queenstown, and hope should you return to the region that the local council works is completed. Kind regards, The Absoloot Hostel QT team

The views from the private rooms on the corner of the building towards the lake are phenomenal AND Sooo much cheaper than a hotel and you get the best view in the city. Right in the centre close to all the eateries and bars and right on the lake in the centre of the atmosphere. I was concerned about the noise levels before going but all the noise stopped at a reasonable time - It was one of the best sleeps I had in one of the comfiest beds I've had in a hotel. Double glazed windows, thick walls meant the room was warm enough to not have the heating off. Really nice interior and beautiful beds. Everything was spotless and I've never stayed in a cleaner hostel. The panorama from the Kitchen makes me never want to cook in another kitchen again, EVER. Extremely helpful and tentative staff helped me with all my queries and requests - i know i have a lot - sorry!!! Special thanks to Shaun and Chris who went above and beyond to make sure our stay was as nice and as hospitable as possible. Cant recommend this place and their service enough. …

Cannot rate this hostel highly enough. This is the BEST location in Queenstown, even better than the pricey hotels. It’s a walk to everywhere and handy to buses. We were a group of 4 and had a quad room to ourselves with ensuite, fridge and shower. Facilities were really clean and it’s the cleanest shared kitchen I’ve seen. They also safely stored our bags while we were out on tramp. Thank you
