All the reviews below couldn't be any truer. One couldn't ask for better hosts in a B&B. If you want to visit NZ like many other travelers - sure you can find many motels, hotels, AirBnBs. But if you'd like to experience New Zealand hospitality and home, Shirley and Barry are the ones to go to. We just finished our 5-day visit with them (enjoying the New Year fireworks from their window) and couldn't have asked for anything to be better. Thanks Shirley & Barry for an unforgettable trip!
Our family (2 adults and 2 boys aged 13 and 10) stayed at Hikurangi Lodge for a week to enjoy all Queenstown in winter has to offer - skiing, bungy jumping, ziplining, trampolining, go carting. The lodge is in a quiet part of Queenstown, up on the hill with spectacular views. It is a 10 minute drive from the airport and a couple minutes down the hill into the centre of town. Despite the chilly temperatures and snow outside, both the accommodation and welcome was toasty warm. Barry and Shirley treated us like family. We had great home cooked breakfasts (Full English, pancakes, porridge, freshly ground coffee, fruit and yoghurt, Spaghetti on toast) and also ate in on a few nights around the family dining table with stunning views across Lake Wakatipu and onto the snowcapped mountains beyond (you can't get sick of that view!). Luckily we had those wonderful breakfasts as we needed the energy to get through the action packed days. Like all other posts, the best part of Hikurangi are the fantastic hosts Barry and Shirley who made us feel so welcome. They helped with any questions, kept the log fires burning and were wonderful company after a long day when putting our feet up around the lounge room watching TV or just having a chat. Nothing was too much trouble. The boys had an amazing time and so did we. I would recommend Hikurangi Lodge to anyone travelling to Queenstown. We will certainly be returning.…
Barry and Shirley showed us true Kiwi hospitality. They were great resources of where to eat and what to see. Stunning views of lake and mountains from the living room. Our room with a king bed was roomy and very comfortable. We were the only guests so we had the bathroom to ourselves. A delicious breakfast selected from a menu was always a nice way to start the day. We would definitely stay with them again.
The views are simply stunning from the upstairs guestrooms and from the living room and dining areas. The hosts go above and beyond with hospitality, wine, and delicious breakfasts, made to order. They even helped me by arranging a trip to see a doctor during our visit (after I threw out my back). Shirley and Barry are warm, friendly and fun to talk with. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast inn!
Our family group of 4 stayed here 2 nights in November. Our hosts Shirley and Barry couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. In fact, they went above and beyond with their service, information, complimentary wine and delicious hot breakfasts, cooked to order no less! In addition to the wonderful hosts, the highlight of this B&B is the amazing view of the lake and mountains from the living room and upstairs bedrooms. Truly spectacular! The rooms were nicely furnished with very comfortable beds. The B&B is located in the hills above town, about a 10 minute easy walk down the hill into town centre, and a $10NZD taxi ride back up the hill (or a 20 minute rather strenuous walk back up). As an experienced traveler, I highly recommend this lovely B&B!
