We had a very comfortable stay at Wains Hotel. We weren't happy with the first room we stayed in and the hotel manager was more than happy to provide us with a complimentary upgrade. The room we were upgraded to was lovely and spacious, with all the basic amenities you need for a short stay. All the staff at the...

About 15 minutes to the Octagon, museums and food stores. Elevator is a bit old and cranky . Staff very friendly and helpful. Parking is a little distance and rather tight. Good beds and services. Internet works very well, stable and speedy. No password

The Wains is in a great location right outside the Octagon - plenty of restaurants and shopping places in the area as well as the train station. Buses run right in front of the hotel. About a 30 minute walk to the botanical gardens. Great breakfast. This is an old property so it's not comfortable like a new hotel would...

Nicely presented hotel and friendly staff. Parking is available a little walk away for $15. Don't leave it until later for breakfast (after 8.30). Rooms near elevator can be noisy. Kept some of the older elements of the hotel which gives a nice feel.

This was one of the most disappointing pre booked hotels during my 26 night tour of New Zealand. Secure car parking was some distance away from the hotel so heavy suitcases had to be wheeled along the city pavement. The parking fee was $15 per night and its approach wasn't entirely reassuring so that I wouldn't have felt comfortable if...

We booked through another website - and based on the pictures provided by their website, the exterior of the hotel looked grand and beautiful and the same for the rooms, hence we booked two nights while in Dunedin. Very dissapointed - we were assigned to the top floor, and the room looked more like an attic! No lift in this...

In the 2 weeks travelling all over NZ, this one unfortunately was thr worst hotel we stayed in. The facade of the building is historic and nice but unfortunately that's where nice finishes. We had room 608. The view reminded me of what communist Russia would be like. The view was of rusty, beige mechanical "stuff", I don't even know....

My partner and I stayed here over a week back in September. We arrived after a long drive, and it was wonderful to arrive at such a lovely, welcoming hotel. The staff were helpful, the rooms were comfy and perfectly clean (I do always check for dust!) and the room service efficient. The hotel's food menu is quite basic, but...

This is where I wish there Trip Advisor scoring was out of 10 as I'd probably say it's a 7/10 but I'd rather round up to 4/5 than down to 3/5!! Staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The reception area is really nice and well maintained. We used the main lift not the quirky one as mentioned in other reviews...

A good location within easy walking distance of Dunedin's Octagon, restaurants and interesting architecture. The reviews below capture most of the foibles, things that occurred to us were the crowded breakfast room with limited choice, but the price seems fair for NZ; slightly dated bathroom, but clean and functional; the lift and stairs combination would be a challenge for some...

Dear ChrisLN, Thank you very much for a rational and considered review of your stay. We are so glad you enjoyed Dunedin and found Wains Hotel to be a pleasant base for your time in the city. In reference to your point about the stairs to some of our rooms, we do provide luggage assistance to all of our guests...
