Reported to the gatehouse. The outward appearance of the lodge was rustic. Parking close to the lodge was interesting - a bit tight, especially if people parked selfishly, as they tend to. Our room was smaller than we expected - we had stayed in some really fantastic accommodation in New Zealand so I suppose we had come to expect to...

We stayed in the Stable Block Accommodation at Larnach Castle and had an evening meal in the castle. The block has quirky rooms (some low ceiling spaces) but very adequate rooms with shared bathroom facilities. Both the continental and 'full English' breakfasts were included in the price and were excellent. Access to the castle and grounds is also included (and...

The lodge was a beautiful place to stay with gorgeous views and lovely bathroom. Unfortunately a wedding party was also staying and were noisy walking up the stairs and overhead. The female staff member who checked us in and out was lovely, friendly and welcoming but couldn't say that for all the staff. It was lovely having access to the...

Stayed for Christmas Eve and night, beautiful rooms, lovely service. Attended the Christmas dinner and had a wonderful time both with our family and other guests we met and chatted with. The grounds are perfect for walking and spending time amongst the various gardens. Both young and old had fun in the Alice in Wonderland chair.

There is loads to see here, we completed the garden and castle tour. I was impressed in the house, how free you where to wander around and take photos. It's a real plus. The staff are on the ball, as a group of two the staff member, Kate, sent us around the house in a way to avoid the bus...

We stayed for here one night to see the Castle and grounds which were lovely but the views from the rooms (which are not in the Castle itself) were fantastic. I never knew Dunedin had such a large harbour and peninsulas. Take a drive to the nearby beaches to take in the vast coastal views. Dinner was served in the...

We spent two nights at Larnach Lodge, what a treat! The weather ( in December!) was perishing, but our room was warm and cosy, and the view from both bedroom and bathroom was spectacular. The bedroom was elegantly furnished with an antique bed and chairs, and the fridge was hidden away in a cupboard. We loved having the run of...

We had a stay in the stables. Room was fine (we had a family room; two singles & a double). There is a sink in the room; bathrooms & showers are shared, though we never had to wait. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. There is a coin-operated laundry on the first floor (hidden behind the staircase). We were...

The food and views were amazing. The service however did not live up to what you would expect at such a lovely location. When I left I felt very mixed emotions as I was extremely in awe of the beauty but equally disappointed in the service received.

“Do not get a room in stables it is too small and ceiling goes down to 2 feet around so you cannot stand up. Beds are bed and threw my back out. You had to share bathrooms and super small shower with 20 people like camping ground. Castle is great and dinner is superb just don't spend the night. ”
