Plus point is that it is in the centre of the city, within easy walking distance of restaurants and shops. Upper floors have great views over the city. Minus points are - a lack of parking spaces available, rooms in need of a facelift, only 30 minutes free wifi per 24 hours (many cheaper hotels have completely free wifi).

The room is quite nice and definitely the view is a bonus. There was a mixup with our breakfast booking but when we got breakfast it was ok although we had to order the cooked breakfast since there were no other customers. Fridge and big TV were good. Did not try to walk to the city although it's close, because...

We were attend to by the manager of the hotel which was a very helpful with our stay and tour bookings, the room was very well organised and had a good character to it. The hotel was situated on a rather steep hill but most of Dunedin is built on hills and steep gradients anyway. I would stay here again...

Thank you for your feedback regarding your recent stay with us at the Kingsgate hotel, Dunedin. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay with us as well as the location of the hotel. Dunedin is famous for it's culture and it's steep streets, boasting the World's steepest street, Baldwin street, which is 8 minutes drive from the Kingsgate hotel. We...

Checked in early in afternoon to find that there is no hall porter and the manager would not or could not assist with our luggage, bearing in mind I have a suspect back, that did not help. The hotel is positioned at the top of a hill, so beware anyone with walking difficulties as it will be a hard climb...

Good value for money and great location. Would have liked better kitchen facilities in the room but otherwise had plenty of space. Stayed in a junior suite and the view over the city was amazing. The property is quite dated but it is cheap. Enjoyed the room service toasted sandwiches and the staff were very friendly.

After some hotels with no views I enjoyed the grand vistas here. The room was big, comfortable and clean. Staff is very friendly - at reception and in the restaurant. Breakfast is good, also the dinner, but nothing to write home about. I selected this hotel for its central location, and in fact almost all the places worth visiting in...

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during our visit to NZ. The exterior is dated and parking was a little hit and miss but room was large and bed very comfortable. Could have done without the fire evacuation drill that woke us from an afternoon nap though. Only real complaint was the welcome - about as warm...

The Kingsgate's best feature is its location - within easy walking distance of the Octagon and nearby restaurants, bars, and sites. The hotel is old and features brutalist architecture/design, which seems out of place in a city a lovely as Dunedin. The staff are great, however. The service was attentive, helpful, and pleasant at every turn.

For a hotel in this town I would rate it slightly above average. The rooms were decent sized and really clean. Location was alright and walking distance to many central shops and restaurants. Parking is limited. Great people working here.
