This hostel was 50 shades of great! A five minutes walk from the center, incredibly spacious rooms (no bunk beds!), free wifi, comfy mattresses, indulging rain showers (!), huge DVD collection, well equipped kitchen... we were devastated to leave the last day! Partially because being the Harry Potter geeks that we are, we couldn't get enough of the references scattered...

Am currently sitting writing this review on a very comfortable couch on a lovely raised balcony above the main lounge whilst listening to someone playing the hostels own piano and this is just the perfect way to relax at the end of a busy day. From the moment we checked in the staff were so friendly and helpful, the hostel...

We stayed in the triple room (1 double + 1 single) which is very spacious for us. The room and whole building make you feel like a big vintage house and they put Harry Potter stuff and name on the things around which may not so matched but quite enjoyable. Almost of facilities are good. A sink in the kitchen...

We stayed in Dunedin 1 night b/c there is nothing much to do there (as backpackers), BUT i would have stayed even more JUST for the hostel! Very warm, clean and cosy. Cost us 30$ each and we got separated beds! The only downside is the limited 200mg wifi. Other than that it's heaven

Thank you very much for your kind review! On a side note: there are quite a lot of things to do in Dunedin - even for backpackers (like free things as walking up the steepest street in the world, visiting our great and free museums and art galleries, seeing the penguins and albatross on the peninsula, enjoying the fabulous street...

So many hostels tell you to be "a home away from home". Hogwartz doesn't tell it but was it for me. Cosy, very clean, relaxed, amazing stuff and very welcoming hosts. Have not yet found any hostel which I liked so much. Just didn't want to leave any more.

I stayed here for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff were friendly, super clean room and bathrooms, beautiful old building, and best of all, no bunk beds! What a welcome change that was. Dunedin was still cold at this time, but there was a heater in the room and the hostel was cosy.

This place was highly rated and it was really enjoyable. It was so cold outside that I invited my friends into the movie lounge to watch some films.its not brand new but its a really got a lot of character this old building. It's like an old Victorian boarding school or something. You feel like you're in another time period.

One if the better hostels in new zealand. Excellent rooms with views over the city. Brilliant kitchen and dining room as well as a wide selection if dvds to rent for free. The only issue i could imagine would be the steepness if the steps to the front door might be a hinderance for those who have difficulty with steps.

Thank you for your review which is much appreciated. And indeed, Dunedin is hilly and we are located on a hill. To avoid the front steps though, guests can come up through our driveway - no steps involved! ;)

“We didn't look at the rest of the accommodation but for couples travelling together we can recommend the Coach House. Wifi only worked near reception in the main building, so not in our accommodation but that wasnt a problem. Like everywhere else in New Zealand, you get a limited amount of MB (50MB per night per room), which is just enough to do your emails and maybe have a look on Facebook... It might frustrate Europeans who are used to a lot faster and more wifi access :)”
