Great value motel close to the CBD (a flat 15 minute walk). Free parking and free wifi. A little dated but still a great motel and the showers were good. Very close to a good pub/restaurant (The Bealey) and within walking distance to others. I would stay here again.

This is a city devastated by earthquakes! It takes considerable time to rebuild! All Bealeys had left were their older motel style units, but reconstruction to replace the demolished building is starting. In the meantime, friendly, attentive staff, both in Reception & the Pub Bar & Dining Room, give warm welcome, and keep the rooms neat and clean, service prompt & efficient. They all deserve support and encouragement, not petty whining about lack of amenity. For those complaining about lack of a laundry, take a reality check, it was reduced to a pile of rubble! An experienced traveller knows to pack a sense of humour, an ability to compromise, and an open mind. Others should stick to their armchairs. Good luck to Lesley and all at Bealeys!

This trip was the second time I had stayed at the motel. I liked the convenient location and friendly management. The rooms are clean and comfortable with all that a couple or small family could need for a few days or more.

Booked here through booking.com all was fine was going to good review until the wife came out until the second day when the wife came out and asked who the guy was leaving unit 11 as I was in my car texting so I wasn't looking where he came from I said he probably came from some from some where else she said she saw him come out of that room, she said if it happens again we will kick her out.
Secondly my friend vacated the room he went in rang me and said she been smoking the room he can smell it, I said there's an outdoor area she had no reason for smoking inside plus it would of set off smoke detectors, I told him she was ripping apart used ciggerretes to make another one, he demanded for me to come back an look when I was already across town and threatened to charge me for something my friend didnt do! These owners are hostilenif you are from out of chch and ask your family or friends to visit they will question it!

Excellent location and very easy to find. Plenty of parking spaces. Rooms spotless and very comfortable beds.
When we return to Christchurch will definitely stay here.
We did not have much interaction with the owners but the little that we had was very helpful and friendly

Smooth and straight forward checkin and checkout. Staff were lovely and very helpful. We booked a twin studio room for 3 people which had a double bed and single. Very spacious room, bathroom and kitchen area. Room had a TV. Overall lovely experience and would definitely stay here again when visiting CHC.

Stayed here about five years ago, and returned as was absolutely fine five years ago and then again this month. Although very clean, also in need of update, carpet stained, curtains raggedy, and no sky. Main issue was lack of cooling, was hot and stuffy, only option is to open the door or window, not great. Friendly check in. But for few dollars more better to be found.

Nestled behind a True Kiwi Icon - a Speights Ale House, all NZ's unique style of drinking and socializing are right on your doorstep (literally) for you to observe and (if brave enough) partake in. With an extensive range of NZ beers to be had, you can choose to enjoy a Speights Gold, A Speights Summit or for the most discerning tastes another variety of Speights - but don't worry, the fairer sex are considered - Speights now feature a Cider in their extensive array of "cold ones"....

To ensure that you enjoy everything the venue and location have to offer, no longer will you be encumbered by the trivial day to day goings on in the country - no news being good news and all that, as the carefully chosen selection of Sky channels on your in-room entertainment center (TV) allows you to experience dated movies, up to the century Discovery Channel articles, and Sports events from oversea's that are bound to appeal to someone, somewhere, maybe. At least if some newsworthy event or situation was developing in NZ you wouldn't have to worry yourself about it - unless you trip over a newspaper somewhere, or turn on your car radio...

The accommodation units are clean and tidy, and extensively decorated in a style that can only be described as "Grannyesque" - the extensive use of brown on brown with Magnolia walls makes you feel right at home (cira 1980). The convenient location of the refrigerator ensures you are never more than a step away from being able to grab a cold beverage, even in the middle of the night... and it's quiet non-stop operation ensures that even in the darkest hours, audible location of the unit is easily achieved.

Rounding out the truly cultural nature of this stay was the friendly, if not boisterous and active nomadic village located in the adjoining unit. Obviously here to enjoy all that Christchurch had to offer (and more). But hey, they were on the move, and clearly this was a let your hair down night - and how often does the entire village get to do that. Celebrations and excitement of the next day's migration clearly over, the village settled down around midnight or thereabouts, when they drifted inside after maximizing the indoor outdoor aspects of the unit.

Thinking that the only part of the true nomadic lifestyle missing was the accompanying livestock, you can imagine my true delight at being gently awaken to the electronic sound of what I can only describe as a rooster in mid fight.... Once bolt upright in bed, I was able to to again experience the hustle and bustle of village life in the pre-dawn hours as they readied themselves for new adventures and hunting grounds that the day would bring.

Don't let those Concrete Block walls fool you - they have the impressive sound resisting qualities of a bank of speakers at an AC/DC concert... Every noise and nuance of village life was delivered to me in crystal clear surround sound - THX have nothing on this puppy! The addition of the subtle vibrations that followed the constant door slamming only enhanced the realism of being right there. When dawn finally did break, the thinly veiled window coverings provided a convenient way to see what the day would bring without the need to bother opening them - everything has been thought of!

With planning well underway, I was tempted to offer some thoughts on the proposed route for the day and stop off's, but thought, no let them discover this for themselves - anyway, I am certain that anyone in any of the surrounding units could have participated in the conversation - it was so clear.

A mere two hours later the Nomads had taken to their various transportation and were off - having enjoyed my immersion in their culture and day to day life I decided a shower was in order... I am never one to complain of a Good Shower, however I was not expecting the wondrous invigorating experience of an industrial strength water-blaster. The cleansing properties are amazing - anything not firmly attached to your body is simply and rapidly exfoliated and swept away from your unsuspecting body. The added advantage is the foot, ankle and lower leg bathing that occurs as the drainage system doesn't keep up with the sheer volume of water being dumped out of the "shower" head... I believe it was a shower head in some former life.

Well, with my day away from this unique location about to begin, it is with much trepidation and unconcealed dread that I ponder what new and unique experience awaits my return this evening - perhaps of travelling Circus is headed this way - only time will tell.... but I am sure I will yet again be able to enjoy my immersion in whatever band of weary travelers descends upon the adjoining unit tonight...

Maybe a couple of Speights from the local tavern will provide a lack of clarity and imbibe a rose colored aura around tonight's experience...

After travelling from the Westcoast to take my sick elderly father to hospital, I phoned this motel and booked a room. I advised the owner I was at the hospital and would be there shortly.
Whilst travelling to the Motel the owner phoned and advised that he had on-sold the room as I had taken longer than 5 minutes to turn up! I was at this time pulling into his driveway!
I went and saw the owner who could not have cared less and was extremely rude to me. The person checking in was at the reception and approaced me saying that the owner laughed about selling the room to him!
The rudest motel owner I have ever encountered!!

I stayed at the motel for one night and it was not a particularly pleasant stay. Here are my notables:
Customer Service: Zero customer service. The attendant at the reception desk couldn’t even bother to say hello to us. He basically tossed the key in our direction and left.
Room: Clean but outdated. The room was a decent size.
Bathroom: This bathroom did not have a separate area for the shower. The shower head is simply mounted on the wall and there is a curtain around it. It is not contained by anything which causes the water to get all over the bathroom floor. I wasn’t expecting luxury accommodation when I checked in to this motel, but a self contained shower doesn’t seem like a lot to ask. There was something extremely creepy about this bathroom.
Location: About a 10-15 minute walk to the city center or a short drive to most locations around Christchurch.
Parking: It was nice that this hotel offered free parking, although there were not a lot of spots, which could be an issue if the hotel is fully booked.
Overall: I would not recommend this hotel as the customer service was poor and there is really nothing special about it. The only positive worth mentioning is that they offer free internet. There are many lodging options in Christchurch and if I return I will definitely be staying elsewhere.
