First the good things, the building is really cool, it is very clean and the facilities are okay. The place had loads of potential but was ruined for us by poor service from the staff. let me explain... We arrived about 9 pm having booked three nights in a private room. They left directions to the room along with a...

I had reservations at staying at a hostel, especially with the stereotypical view that they're hostels are run down, and full of dirty backpackers. But Jailhouse was the complete opposite! It was also an interesting experience seeing the hostel come to life later in the night when a horde of teens returned from their One Direction concert just down the...

Good clean hostel with a nice friendly staff. Only negative was a terrible supply of electrical outlets in the rooms which is a pain in the butt. It kind of looked like they may be working on fixing that though. All in all a solid hostel to stay in. Cool concept. I'd recommend.

It's a cool experience. Lodging in Addington prison. Rooms are clean and former prison cells! It's a quirky experience no doubt... Nothing to fault really. A double room ran us 60 euros. Maybe a bit steep? But I guess it would be 10 extra to see the inside of a prison anyway ;)

Stayed here with my husband for 1 night. Our flight didn't get into Christchurch until midnight, but there was no problem checking in late - hostel simply provided us with a front door code and left our room key on the desk. We always look for places to stay that are more interesting / unusual and so this was perfect....

We were initially concerned when booking to stay in a jail. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, big and comfortable. The wifi (although you had to pay) worked everywhere. The facilities were very good and functional (kitchen and bathrooms etc). It's literally an old jail with a lot of the features still in place. STAY HERE and...

I'm a YHA member but me and my partner wanted to experience hostels with "character". We stayed in the jailhouse for the 1st night of our South Island adventure and wasn't disappointed. The hostel was one of the prominent stops by Super-shuttle and is relatively close to some cool cafes and restaurants like the Addington Co-op Coffee. We took a...

When I first arrived to Christchurch I didn't want to go stay there, there was always beds available when I was booking hostels and sometimes it's a sign of a dodgy place. But! It just has a lot of rooms and beds :) It's truly one of the coolest backpackers I've stayed at and I've come to stay here on...

I got a chance to stay at jailhouse accommodation. It was a very interesting experiences. Never been into a real jail, so the only knowledge about jail life is from films or documentary. In this day, the accommodation lose the intensity or isolation, but when you walk into the room it still give you a feeling of losing freedom. And...
