This was our first visit to the Heritage Christchurch, and the first time we had been in the city since the earthquake. We were just amazed at how good the hotel was, both in terms of its condition and in terms of the service we received there. The building is such a welcome sight, like a grand lady she has...

We had booked a 1 room suite and when we checked in we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 story suite. Very spectacular. How the OGB has been restored and preserved is amazing. As the OGB made it through the 2010 earthquake is testimony to how great a restoration was completed. the front desk staff was very...

I generally like luxury travel, but Christchurch doesn't really have five star hotels - so I decided to opt for a heritage building, as that's my next favourite thing - hotels with character and a story to tell. Housed in a grand old government building, we stayed in Suite 35 which was a spacious 2-storey room with an upstairs bedroom...

We did not stay at the heritage this time but found the luxury last time a special treat.. however we did go for a drink pre-dinner and couldn't resist after dinner as well. Reason I am writing review is I was so impressed with staff, bar staff and doormen (security). I love the hospitality industry where staff have attention to...

The Heritage Christchurch rises like a Phoenix in the center of ChCh where the earthquake destruction is most evident. It's a grand and luxurious reinvention of a former government building. High ceilings, vast hallways, stained glass and grand staircases add to the old world feeling. Our one bedroom suite was on two levels, as it appears they all may be,...

Stayed on first and last nights of our visit to New Zealand. A beautifully renovated property, with rooms being suites, bedroom areas being on mezzanine floors. Wide passages and grand staircase gives the hotel an exclusive feel. The rooms are generously sized and well equipped. The bathroom (with a washing machine and dryer behind cupboard doors) and kitchenette is good...

Driving through New Zealand for two weeks this was a wonderful stop for a couple of days. A wonderfully designed hotel in a historic building. Hallways are huge with 20 ft ceilings, the rooms are two story with bedrooms upstairs. Bathroom includes a washer and dryer which was a welcome surprise. Rooms have lots of room and kitchenettes. Popular bar...

The space in this suite hotel is generous with wide passages and grand staircases. The rooms are also generously sized and well equipped. The 2 bedroom suites have a bedroom/ensuite upstairs and another bedroom next door. So as one of two couples we had the upstairs bedroom and the downstairs bathroom(with a washing machine and dryer behind cupboard doors). It...

We have just had 4 days staying at the Heritage Hotel, in a 2 bedroom suite. Stunning is the only word to describe our stay. From the moment of arriving to departing, you are made to feel welcome. The suites are 100%. The décor is perfect, extremely comfortable beds and great linen. It is the most beautiful building to stay...

5 stars all the way!!! The area has been damaged by the earthquake but this hotel is fantastic. The rooms, decor, friendliness are second to none. DO NOT let the earthquake torn areas scare you away from here, go and be supportive of this area of fine people and enjoy a great stay at this hotel

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Christchurch is a long way from the Mediterranean - nevertheless, the opulence of an Italian High Renaissance Palazzo awaits you at the Heritage Christchurch. Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel's grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement. ... more   less
