Room 1 !for sure) has a fire place, balcony access and view of the water, comfortable bed, continental breakfast! Wife was concerned about no ensuite facilities, but not a problem and clean with hot shower! Recommend highly if you want a place away from the bustle of Christchurch, but close and a grand drive.

Rooms lovely, very clean and comfortable, picture is the view from the verandah where we had tea and toast this morning. Meals delicious! A great spot to relax, enjoy a meal, and take in the views 😊 Shared facilities all very clean and accessible. Staff very accommodating, friendly and helpful.

Enjoyed our stay at this cosy hotel. Ticked all the boxes for us. Rooms were on the small size but suited us perfectly. Lovely views the upstairs deck and the complimentary continental breakfast was a nice add on with cereals and toast. Reception was easy and staff very friendly, would definitely recommend for a break.

We visited this gorgeous old place in April, 2016 during the off season. The linen was crisp white and the eco store products were gorgeous to use in the bathrooms. The carpet was soft under the feet so we didn't need slippers. Our balcony room had a gorgeous view. We found the dressing gowns to be sumptuous and I couldn't... More

Hi Julie, Thank you so much for your glowing review. We are certainly very proud of our "elegant old lady" and in our staff whom do a fabulous job. There certainly is a lot of history that goes on between these four walls and one day I might write a book. So glad you enjoyed your time with us and... More

A nice setting with tables out in the sun. However the food was very below par. They have awards all over the walls for Beef and Lamb, but no lamb on the midday menu, and they had no beef available either. The pizza was tasteless, the nachos were a big mess, and we sent the pasta back twice, only to receive the same... We arrived and were given a table, but 45 minutes to an hour later, and no sign of the meal. Had to ask for it, no apology. When we asked as to why there was a delay both of the owners argued and made excuses that they were busy. Totally unprofessional. Couple of things, when you're busy it's common courtesy... More

Dear Scorpion, Thank you for your feedback but when you arrive at 1.00pm without a booking with practically every table both inside and outside either reserved and mostly occupied, you might think to yourself, we could be in for a wait here. It was a gorgeous Autumn day and I'm disappointed you didn't enjoy some banter amongst yourselves whilst soaking... More

My partner and I stopped here for the night after arriving from Australia. Well worth the short drive from Christchurch through the scenic mountains and valleys that NZ offers. We were met by the friendly staff of the day and shown to our room upstairs. Room was tidy and comfy and opened to the shared verandah that overlooks the bay.... More

I recommend room 1 as has an open fireplace. No aircon in this hotel but double doors open out onto a large shared deck. Great if you want to meet people, not if you want private quiet time. Chef had his big dog upstairs in the staff room also so expect a bit of barking. We had the downstairs bar... More

Hi Leon, Cheers for your feedback, however when you ordered our "beef duo" I did mention it was not as described in your room compendium as we had not updated this from a recent menu change. You were disappointed that it did not have asparagus, which by then was out of season and we simply cannot conjure this up. It... More

I began with putting this hotel as average but changed it to very good now that I have experienced the other hotels on the S. Island that we stayed. It has a beautiful view, lovely walk path along the water, bar and good restaurant. The rooms themselves are small but clean. They do have 2 bathrooms and showers to share... More

Dear Kris, Sorry to hear that the rest of your hotel experiences in the South Island were disappointing but glad upon reflection that improved our grade. I have to confess that we were luxing it in Tahiti on Valentine's Day, which we felt a tad guilty about. Regardless, we love to throw in a good quake here in Christchurch. We... More

Comfortable 1st floor room, balcony overlooking the Bay and Lyttleton. Beautifully renovated but NOT spoiled and up dated with 'en suite' facilities! Sounds odd? Perhaps it may be to some, but each room has access to one of two showers and a separate toilet. Trips in the night?? White fluffy dressing gowns are in your room!!

Dear Keith, You know the old shared facilities thing is a bit of a dinosaur these days I know but it's darned tricky to get anything through Council these days to change anything. Not that we have the budget to change much around as I think our prices reflect the lack of such facilities. It's a funny thing, we leased... More
