We were well accomodated for our late arrival and got to a room with the heater already on. The lodge is in a suburban street, perfect for a quiet night with jet lag. Facilities efficient and clean. Corridors do seem to be used as store rooms though.

It was the second place I've stayed in Christchurch (and in New-Zealand), we went there because it was the cheapest and we stayed more than 2 months because it felt like home! Shiona, the manager, is more than lovely, she will make you as comfortable as she can. I had my 30th birthday there, I was sad to get that... More

The manager is indeed very friendly. However the hostel is totally a mess. It seems that life stopped 50 years ago for them. Painting is falling off the walls, bed are noisy and not confortable. Bathrooms are scary. No free wifi.

The best thing about this hostel is the manager who goes out of her way to make sure you're loving life. She always made sure I had a bed even when I forgot to book in advance, and she even, on occasions, bakes cakes for the guests. The kindest little Scottish woman I ever did meet. The hostel is clean and... More

Based on previous reviews we had read we weren't too sure whether to stay here or not, but as it was the cheapest hostel on offer and we were only there for one night we thought, how bad could it really be?? The hostel is FINE, whilst it is no luxury hotel - for the price you cannot complain. It... More

Value stay, good enough to sleep the night through. The location was just ok, no stunning views. The accommodation was very basic and cleaniness was not the best! Hot water in the showers was a plus. Just average, really.

It was really cheap, the beds were comfortable and it was clean. The kitchen is big enough, a little bit dirty but not too bad. The staff was really lovely. Nothing to complain about. A close supermarket, but the city isn't around the corner, we got a car so it wasn't a problem and a bus stop is nearby the... More

The lovely doddery old gentleman manager has been replaced by the more than capable Shona. A woman of Scottish descent, she has considerable local knowledge which she imparts to all who ask. The place is homely, Still bearing signs of the earthquakes, but improves overtime I visit. The last time was my fifth and in the words of Arnie -... More

This is not a hotel. It is a big house that has turned into a backpackers. For backpackers however, it wasnt bad at all. We got a private room, and it honestly felt like a sleepover at a friends house. The bed was very comfortable and nicely made, we had a wardrobe, lamps and a bed side table. The bathroom... More

The good: Nice woman at the reception. Very welcoming The bad: Dirty, toilet under average... The ugly: This is the main reason I didn't want to stay there and I left the hostel in less than 30mins... I couldn't find a socket to charge my mobile and I went to the reception to ask for help. A man received me... More
