If you feel like a soak in a natural hotspring but don't want the crowds of Hanmer Springs, then Maruia is a good alternative. Situated on the banks of a river in the Lewis Pass, its simple but very relaxing. Sulphur pools but smell is nothing to worry about and is great for the skin. Much smaller than Hanmer -... More

My sister and I stayed two nights in Maruia Springs, enjoying the wonderful pools, fabulous food and not quite so fabulous rooms. The property is under new management after having been a Japanese themed hotel for many years. The new owners do have a bit of a job to bring the decor and fittings up to standard, but we had... We have been coming here for over 30 years. The remote location, spectacular scenery and wonderful hot pools are constant. The Hotel itself has varied over the years. We have great hopes of the latest owners, they are definitely on the right track, just need time to implement changes and fix overdue maintenance items. Staff were young, friendly and international.... More

Unfortunately there was too many hiccups here to enjoy what was supposed to be a romantic get away and for the price I was very disappointed in the room which we first entered had two singles and a very recent toilet use which was obviously by the service attendant as the t.paper was neatly folded but we got over it... Not as tourist frequented as Hamner pools but great place especially on a wet day and no one else about. Approximately 10minutes from Psrings junction well worth a swim. they do have a small selection of swimsuit and towels. Also have a great cafe.

Continues to improve each time we stop. Very friendly staff and a lovely open fire to sit in front of on a really cold day. Had great vege soup with home baked bread. Welcoming atmosphere and we were told Sundays are already busy as a place to go for lunch. We wish them all the best.

A magical winter experience with the overnight package. I've stayed overnight before so appreciated the improvements that are being made. My review title was going to be the superb chicken karaage but the breakfast was so divine we went back for more a few days later. We miss Shu but the new staff are very hospitable and Annie the housekeeper... More

While this facility is undergoing a necessary revamp, it still offers a fantastic weekend away. The communication with staff before and during our stay was friendly and professional. They spoke proudly of the improvements they are working on. Our Mountain View room was warm and clean, and well equipped, and will respond well to having the decor updated. We chose not... More

Some reason the management team is completely changed, it was operated by Japanese before, the private pool was superb and food in Japanese restaurant was excellent, unfortunately it's the same any more. This place used to have separate bath room for men and women, it's sucks that one of the room is currently renovated so need to wear swim suit... More
