Stopped here for a night as a treat for my partner and I after a South Island hiking road trip. We thought it would be a nice end to a great trip, to unwind and relax. We were wrong, unfortunately. There is potential here to become a great spot for people with the same idea as ourselves to enjoy it,... More

This is my third visit to Maruia Springs as previously I have loved it, after the latest visit I won't be returning. Unfortunately, the service has plummeted, the staff were rude and unhelpful. The quality of the hot pools has also dropped and the food is less than satisfactory. This is an incredible location and unique resort, I really hope... More

We recently had a girls weekend in the south which started with a night at Maruis Hot Springs Resort. The accommodation was very very basic, so don't expect luxury however our room was very clean and beds comfy. The dining was world class. I eat out a lot in Auckland and can say this was up there with the best!... More

I have been going to Maruia springs for over 30 years, ever since it was just a concrete bath in the riverbed. . Since then it has been owned by a japanese family who created the beautiful pools and bath houses that are there today. . Recently the resort has changed hands and the new owners have retained all its... More

Maruia Springs is set in a high mountain pass beautiful bush setting with mountain peaks right there. A stunning outlook as you soak in the outdoor thermal pools. The pools themselves have been built of natural rock with a mountain fed river flowing less than 100 metres away. The complex is totally self sufficient with its own hydro generated power... More

I came here for a private spa booking and was shocked to see what condition the room was in. The carpet was worn through, the sliding door kept coming off the rails and it was corroded. The temperature of the pools themselves were far too hot to even enter, the hose inside the room wasn't cold enough to put the... More

The mineral buildup and corrosion reflects the high mineral content in our thermal waters, which many of our customers use for healing and medicinal purposes. The water is 100% pure and as about 300,000 litres of fresh thermal mineral water flows through our pools daily we can assure you the water in the private spa and all pools is as... More

From our hot pools we had the best view of Lewis pass that anybody ca get. We could spot the snow-capped mountains on top and the river below. The location of the springs is just perfect. We also loved the cheap Lunch + Bathe combo, a great way to spend our afternoon!

If you feel like a soak in a natural hotspring but don't want the crowds of Hanmer Springs, then Maruia is a good alternative. Situated on the banks of a river in the Lewis Pass, its simple but very relaxing. Sulphur pools but smell is nothing to worry about and is great for the skin. Much smaller than Hanmer -... More

My sister and I stayed two nights in Maruia Springs, enjoying the wonderful pools, fabulous food and not quite so fabulous rooms. The property is under new management after having been a Japanese themed hotel for many years. The new owners do have a bit of a job to bring the decor and fittings up to standard, but we had... We have been coming here for over 30 years. The remote location, spectacular scenery and wonderful hot pools are constant. The Hotel itself has varied over the years. We have great hopes of the latest owners, they are definitely on the right track, just need time to implement changes and fix overdue maintenance items. Staff were young, friendly and international.... More
