Hidden on the southern shore of Lake Brunner, surrounded by some of the oldest protected podocarp rainforest in the world, Lake Brunner Lodge is a classic wilderness retreat. Come and enjoy some respite from the real world and explore the West Coast’s magnificent natural environment. True kiwi hospitality awaits you. Stay for a night or a week for memories to last a lifetime! Established for more than a century, the Lodge’s polished timber panelling, log fires, book lined library, snug bar, pool table and comfortable guest suites make this a lovely place to stay. Guest suites are large and well equipped, with an emphasis on comfort and relaxation. We also have a self contained two bedroom cottage if you are after some more privacy. The lodge has been generating its own power since the 1930’s, sourced from the stunning Carew Falls located directly behind the lodge. Hydro-electric power is our main source of power and we are extremely proud to use a renewable resource that is right in our backyard. During your stay at Lake Brunner Lodge, you can enjoy relaxing by the fire in the library with a great book or be enchanted by the surrounding natural environment by taking a walk in the surrounding native bush, kayaking around the lake, mountain biking or fishing the nearby rivers for South Island Brown trout. At night, you may consider exploring the nearby native bush to seek out the thousands of glow worms glistening amongst the trees. Our in-house bar and restaurant Mitchells offers a breath-taking setting, from the elevated deck you can watch the world go by, as you enjoy a glass of wine and a hearty meal. Lake Brunner Lodge welcomes travellers from near and far to come and enjoy our beautiful lodge for an experience not to be forgotten. But be warned, you may forget where you are, amongst the silence of the forest and lake. We cannot wait to welcome you to our beautiful piece of the wild West Coast.

Our second visit to Lake Brunner Lodge was just as good as the first. Jamie and Leanne are excellent hosts, the food and accommodation is perfect and the atmosphere is so relaxing. A weekend here never enough.

I would definitely recommend stopping in at Lake Brunner Lodge if you are going to be travelling to the Lake Brunner region. if you have the time ti would also recommend the walk that is not far from the lodge that takes you to up to a beautiful waterfall. The couple that own the Lodge are friendly and most accommodating. Good food with in a very relaxed setting..

A very special location and recommended for staying somewhere off the beaten track of the coastal areas, to see the sky at night and experience Kiwi hospitality. Cleanliness was good but not excellent and the place is expensive for what it is. Have stayed in other remote locations which are more luxurious for a similar price. WiFi is not high speed and not available in bedrooms.

Off the beaten track, this extremely well preserved example of 1930 architecture provided an insight into a simpler time when entertainment was derived from a conversation with fellow guests, a board game or even reading a book from the library ...

The lodge is about 50 minutes from Greymouth and about half of the drive is on a dirt road. It was very hot and since there is no A/C or even a single fan, we headed to the lake for a swim. There isn't a beach but there is a slippery boat ramp. The lodge is not on the lake but well back and there are no boats or anything to enjoy the lake. My wife wasn't feeling very well and the heat in the room was like a sauna and made sleeping rather difficult. The place was clean but very dated and nothing has been added since the 60's. We paid about $300/night and had prepaaid for two but left the next morning. I have no idea why anyone would want to stay at the lodge unless they had a boat and wanted to fish or wanted to experience a 1960's lodge in the middle of nowhere. Two stars might be generous but the people were friendly. There are so many better alternatives

We came here as part of the trans alpine package, so peaceful. The people who run this place were welcoming and helpful. We stayed one night and found the rooms clean and comfortable. We had dinner that night, of the aranichini balls, the chicken and brie pizza and the lamb shank. We were very impressed by the food! Was delicious. We would recommend staying here, such a lovely peaceful place with lake views!

Lodge is very English feeling. Rooms are (lakeside) very good size. Comfortable bed. Host was very nice and accommodating. The lodge is down a dirt road and there is not much there except a beautiful fishing lake. If you are looking for a place to go fish or hang out by the lake it's very nice.
