My wife and I stayed at the Lake Taupo Lodge in late January, 2020 for two nights. We were touring New Zealand for four weeks. When we pulled into the driveway the owner Gary came out and greeted us by name. "We've been expecting you. So glad you'll be staying with us. How was your drive?" I've traveled extensively around the world in recent years and never, ever experienced such a friendly reception at any place of lodging. I almost started to laugh. But, I didn't as I quickly realized Gary was sincere in his uncommon hospitality. But it also wasn't an overbearing hopitality. Our room had a beautiful view of the lake in the distant. The grounds are a botanical delight. We didn't have dinner there which was unfortunate because I'm certain it would have been exceptional. Gary did direct us to good restaurants in town. Breakfast was prepared by the chef Chris. I know it's only breakfast but it was elegant and delicious. My wife took a picture of her breakfast plate it was so pretty. We made friends with the one other couple staying there. They were from the UK. We shared drinks at happy hour and went out to dinner one night. The owner Gary was most interested in discussing the political events back in the USA. We had some interesting conversations about political matters. And the room was phenomenal. The porch was a great place to unwind overlooking the gardens and Lake Taupo. Another reviewer titled their review "Died and Gone to Heaven". Not an exaggeration. What an all around great lodging experience..…
During our 5 week trip to New Zealand this has to be the best Lodge/B&B we stayed in. Gary and Shirley are hosts were delightful. Chris the Chief a master of breakfast and pre-dinner canapes. We really loved our stay in our beautiful lodge overlooking the garden and lake. Although situated 5 minutes from the main town it was worth it in every way. If I am every lucky enough to visit NZ again, I am definitely head back to Lake Taupo Lodge.
What a beautiful property and amazing gardens. We loved the peacefulness and the hospitality at Lake Taupo Lodge. Gary could not have been more helpful and the breakfasts and pre-dinner drinks were a lovely touch. The lodge is a little way out of town so you would need to drive or get taxis into town for dinner, but the advantage is the view of the lake. A real experience.
Fantastic property beautiful grounds extremely friendly and willing to accommodate in every way possible. Chris the chef was fantastic we had a huge breakfast made to order every day, no need for lunch. Ken helped with daily plans and arranging dinners. WiFi was recently improved and worked fine. Only 6 rooms and very spacious I would highly recommend and if returning to the area would definitely stay again below views from room
I cannot begin to express how much we enjoyed our stay with Gary & Shirley & their wonderful staff. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed and pampered, and the room was impeccable and tastefully decorated, with a view over their magnificent gardens. Wandering through the footpaths of their property was magical. A sense of calm fell over both of us, and we even thought of throwing away our blood pressure pills! Breakfast was something that you excitedly looked forward to, just to see what chef Chris had concocted, every time beyond delicious. The staff went out of their way to be friendly & helpful. Truly the finest accommodations we’ve ever experienced, hands down, anywhere. World class. Thank you, Gary & Shirley!
