#3 of 48 Specialty lodging in Taupo
The Waitahanui Lodge is all about the kiwi bach experience. The original lodge was built in 1932 as a fishing lodge that by today's standards would have been fairly basic. In the 1950's a new lodge was built right by the lake's edge and close to the world renowned Waitahanui River. With renovations and upgrading the Lodge has up to date facilities and caters for today's travellers, yet the "kiwiana soul" of the Lodge remains. The lodge consists of 5 well equipped, self catering cottages, accommodating up to 5 guests. All linen is supplied. Absolute lakefront location can be enjoyed from two of our cottages while the others are just a few steps away. Our wonderful lakeside terrace provides the perfect spot for a barbecue or simply to enjoy a great sunset. Our on site tackle shop has waders and rods for hire plus all the fishing tackle needed to fish our local rivers for trout.

We were warmly welcomed by our wonderful hosts Anthony and Bron who showed us into our idyllic unit which opens directly onto the lake front. Beautifully furnished with comfy lounge and beds and great bathroom. We loved the batchy character with a five star feel. The home baked afghan biscuits Bron made to have with our coffee and the fresh smoked trout Anthony had caught the day before were surprise super delicious extras! Thanks guys for your great hospitality. Would highly recommend to anyone.

This little gem is such a great spot. Quiet & relaxing, with great views. So close to Taupo but far enough away for peace and quiet. Run by an amazing couple that really look after their guests with furnishings to little welcome treats. Great for the keen fisherman and a quiet family get away. Can not wait to stay again in summer time.

If you’re looking for something truly 'Kiwiana’ right bang spanking on Lake Taupo's exquisite foreshore (merely 15 metres into the water)’ then look no further: Waitahanui Lodge's Kiwi batches are for you! Bron and Anthony are the Lodge's consummate hosts, they see to it that your needs are fully met - they have inside knowledge of fine trout fishing spots, and their shop is full of supplies for whatever type of trout fishing grabs you - the shop also includes Bron’s pure woollen hand-knitted beanies, I bought one, the warmest and most comfortable I’ve ever owned! The Lodge provides a smoking burner for your freshly caught trout, also you can hire one of the Lodge's runabouts - Anthony (and recently Bron) is an avid fly fisher and more than willing to share his successful trout fishing secrets, including his famous smoked-trout recipe, which is simply delish! My husband and I are regular visitors and couldn’t wait to get back once the country went into lockdown Level 2 (straight on the phone to Bron to book a week after Jacinda Ardern’s announcement) - we usually book room/batch #4, it’s right on the Lake's edge facing west which provides magnificent sunsets, the best spot to enjoy a beer or bubbly - ask Bron about her cheese platters and romantic pizza dinners (includes wine), SUPERB, we can vouch for them, see attached photos. The batch has been recently reburbished, it is spacious and well-equiped, a great kitchen which, thanks to a concertina picture window, showcases a fabulous view overlooking the lake. A lovely patio with outdoor furniture lies off the lounge/dining room; the large modern bathroom and bedroom (unbelievably comfy king-size bed) completes the batch. A third person can easily fit as there is a single bed in the lounge area. For sure, we will return to our favourite NZ holiday spot!

Well where do I start, this Lodge is magic, right on the edge of Lake Taupo, the hosts are super friendly. We were in No 5, the unit, clean and tidy and spacious, with everything you wanted including a bbq. On arrival we found freshly baked afghans, And that night the hosts were smoking trout and we all were given some, just so delicious. Boiler room across from us where one can smoke your trout, have a drink and socialise with fellow guests, under cover. Thankyou Anthony and Bron we will be back. Dianne and Colin

The perfect getaway for rediscovering our own country after staying in for more than six weeks. Ant and Bronnie have created a great blend of the traditional Kiwi getaway with a five star feel. Definitely coming back. Sitting here on the lake edge looking straight out at the beach ten feet away with a stunning view of the lake.
