Desperate need of some maintaince. After some rain there was buckets everywhere and Carpet was soaked in hallways. Heat pump didn't work in any rooms and the smell of dampness was sickening. Rooms were large enough but shower leaked water all over floor from faulty shower screen rubber. Carpet under beds was not vacuumed and 4 bar oil heater was... More

Rundown, missing lampshades, heat pumps not working, ceiling lights full of years worth of bugs. But had a decent sleep there and was comfortable enough. Great location but doesn't have much going for it. The old bridge connecting to reception area clearly leaks and I would be reluctant to walk across it!

Arrived at the Grand Hotel on Saturday the 9th of July 2016, and was greeted with a smile by Sheridan who was very accommodating and made us feel very welcome. She gave us a room which was close to the stairwell, so we didn't have far to carry our luggage. Awesome location, within walking distance to practically everything. The room... More

Its my second time back in Rotorua so we decided to stay someone at the city itself. Read the reviews for this "hotel" so I decided to give it a go. Haha! As expected. NO LIFTS. So my dad and I had to lug our luggage up the stairs. That was the only tiring part. Other than that, room is... More

The room was filthy, the aircon was broken, the beds weren't even made properly - the sheets were just placed on top of mattress -not even tucked in!!!!! When I called to make the reservation the lady I spoke to was very helpful and friendly but when we got there we encountered a different lady who was the total opposite!

You get what you pay for with Grand Hotel Rotorua. Staff are nice and room is fine - very basic. It's not a very aesthetically pleasing hotel, but it does the job. Don't stay here if you want to spend any time in your room though. Walking distance to everything, good location. Reception is only open 8am-8pm.

The location is ok but the room was unclean, and with very poor decor. The facilities were very limited. Even Hostels would be a better option...price and cleanliness-wise. Reception didn't even apologise when we complained.

Last min booked into hotel on easter. Told we were in the eco class room. Which said had wifi and sky. So paid our $140 and took our bags up some dirty old stairs down a scummy hall way. Walls and doors all dirty. So found the room sat on the old bed hit the base turned the tv on... More

Near to Polynesian Spa, to the center city, 2 Information Centers and a lot of restaurants. There is a continental coffee and although some people complain, the low WIFI signal at an hotel in a touristic place is an invitation to stay out of the room and explore the city.

Bare bones but clean, staff very nice. Only bad thing is no 24-hour front desk, only open 8 am to 8 pm. Continental breakfast was decent. Close to visitor center and to many restaurants. Easy walk to the lake n night life at Eat Street. Good Wifi available.
