Nestled conveniently close to dining and attractions, Ibis Rotorua Hotel offers guests the advantage of nearby facilities, although the in-room amenities themselves receive mixed reviews, with some guests pointing out a few shortcomings. While the rooms are generally celebrated for their cleanliness and comfort, issues with maintenance and noise have been brought to light.
Opinions on the atmosphere and service vary, with mentions of both cozy environments and concerns about the responsiveness of the staff. Additionally, the hotel's value proposition has been questioned by guests who expect more for their money.

Detailed Reviews
My wife and I stayed just one night here but were very pleased with so many features of this value for money chain.
The hotel is well located just back from the lake and within easy walking distance of most amenities of the town. Good parking is on site.
We experienced very good cheerful and efficient service at reception in contrast, it seems, to some other reviewers. A couple of things in our room were not working, a light, a socket and the fridge, but we were confident these were to be put right. Internet and tv were absolutely fine as were the air conditioning and bathroom facilities. Breakfast looked fine and fair value.
A strength of the Ibis brand is that guests benefit from the Accor rewards system and can enjoy the facilities of the adjacent partner Novotel, including their mineral pools, gym and excellent restaurant.
We can happily recommend this hotel to travelers to Rotorua, you would struggle to find a better value for money hotel in such a great location

First impression was that the hotel is well kept and the staff friendly. My colleague and I arrived before check-in time but were able to leave our bags so we could go for a wander around Rotorua while we waited.
When we finally got the room, it was very cramped with the two twin beds very close together. There was barely any room to move around and only a couple of little milk pots to go between the two of us for our cups of tea. Definitely not ideal for a two day stay with someone you don't have a particularly close relationship with. Fortunately my colleague and I were out most of the day during our stay so although it was a bit uncomfortable, it wasn't too much of an issue.
The beds themselves were very comfortable and I did have a good night's sleep in mine.
Unfortunately upon checkout it seemed that somebody had made some kind of error - they weren't very clear about what had happened. After a while of waiting for the receptionists to try to sort out what had happened, my colleague who'd put down the $100 returnable room deposit on her personal travel card, was told that she would most likely receive it back within a week and to call them if she hadn't received it by then. This was a considerable portion of her money to disappear (albeit temporarily), especially as we were headed back to the UK around the time it was due to arrive back in her account. Unfortunately I also didn't hear the end of it from her about it for the rest of the week. On the plus side, I assume she's probably got it back now because she's stopped bringing it up.
I would not recommend this hotel at all for anyone who has to have a twin room. I think it would probably be nice for someone booking a single or double room though as the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, and it's also in a brilliant location.

Dear Kyrithys, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent experience with us. Glad to see you enjoyed our great location and also the beds. However, I do apologies for the size of your room not meeting your expectations and also for not having enough milk in the fridge. Next time, please do not hesitate to ask reception for some extra milk. Sorry also for the issue with the bond. I will ask our front desk staff to communicate this better to our guests upon arrival. So sorry for the inconvenience it caused you! We do hope that you enjoyed your time in New Zealand and we look forward to hosting you again in one of our hotels.

This hotel is well located near the lake and center of Rotorua. That is it. End of story.
Everything else was just ordinary at best - including price (which one might argue was a little pricey). As far a comfort, service and food goes - I’d say overall it wasn’t good nor was it poor. It was at a level of average that did not equal the economic utility required to feel comfortable about the money that was forgone for the said accommodation. So I probably would not stay at this place again and would strongly recommend that you check around for other options before settling for average.

The IBIS is next to a Novohotel, and they currently share a breakfast area that is terrific, worth the price. The rooms are typical IBIS design, maybe a bit bigger and with nicer baths. The staff was friendly and helpful, giving us directions into the town. The top quality, beyand depndable clean space, is the location, walking distance to the lake shore (next door) attractions (Maori hangi thing, also next door), restaurants in an two block strip close by.

This hotel is dated, the shower and bathroom really need renovation but tgd service was great and friendly.
The beds are comfy and very close to all the eateries, hospital and main Rd.
The best thing about this hotel is the free laundry service. There is a guest laundry which provides, washing machine with detergent and also dryer. Great facility to have.
Overall don't expect 5 star but a good budget hotel.

We had a pleasant 1 night stay at this hotel. Our room was clean and the king bed very comfortable. The view of the lake was lovely especially at sunrise.
Breakfast was included in our rate and was your standard fare for a cooked breakfast. The muesli was nice and it was also a good change to see porridge. There was an automated coffee machine so we skipped that and went elsewhere for our morning coffee. As we were so close to other cafes, next time we would give the hotel breakfast a miss and explore other eateries.
This hotel is in a great location by the lake and close to the bars and cafes. You can use the swimming pool at the Novotel which is next door and part of the Accor Hotel Group.
A big shout out to Dave at reception on Saturday 7 March - he was very friendly and welcomed us to the hotel.
This booking was last minute and was good value for what we paid.

We stayed here 3 nights. The room has everything you'd expect but is pretty small. The bathroom and shower are especially small. The internet was fast. A free laundry was very useful too.
Access to pool, spa and gym were at the hotel next door which is a little annoying but they were great to use.
Location is great being close to the lake, cafes and restaurants.
A special thanks to Dave on the front desk. He made us feel very welcome and fixed all our problems (the lake view room we were first assigned wasn't really lake view).
Overall we enjoyed our stay but it could have been better.

Our check-in was efficient and the receptionist polite. No traffic or guest noise could be heard from our 4th floor room which was appreciated. Our room was clean and comfortable with adequate bedding and storage for our suitcase/bags. There is no crockery apart from 2 cups and 2 teaspoons, so if you wish to eat anything which requires a plate, you need to contact the receptionist who will give you some dishes for breakfast cereal etc and some spoons. The fridge was noisy and kept making a burring noise off and on for the duration of our stay causing sleep disturbance. There was no information pack in our room which is most unusual for a hotel.
The bathroom was a problem. Firstly, the exhaust fan is on 24/7 with a constant noise which could be heard, even with the door shut. This was queried with the receptionist who said that its correct for the fan to be on all the time. The light switch to the bathroom is by the front door so it was a bit of a struggle to find the switch in the dark without turning the main light on and disturbing anyone else. There were no hand-towels, just one flannel and two very nice large towels and a bath mat. There was inadequate space to put anything in the bathroom, for example, the towel rail right under the sink was inadequate to put the large bath towels on. It would have been helpful if some hooks could have been placed on the wall to allow for towel hanging etc. There was only one hook in the bathroom on a very tight space next to the shower cubicle. Also, the water pressure for the hand-basin was extremely inadequate and it took an age to fill the basin with water.
On the plus side, Ibis is very near the town which makes a big difference for easy access to shops and restaurants.

We stayed at Ibis Rotorua for 4 nights in Dec. On our arrival, we saw an asian couple getting spoken to in the most condescending manner by the receptionist Olivia. I thought there might have been some back story to explain this level of rudeness but I soon realised that Olivia behaves like this with everyone. She rolled her eyes multiple times when checking us in for no apparent reason. She was cold and rude the whole time. I wanted to complain but my wife asked to forget about it as she might be having a bad day.
We had no further encounter with Olivia again but low and behold, on checking out, she was there again!!! Same level of rudeness, cold and rolling her eyes!! And guess what, I have never had someone respond with, I quote: “Ok, you can go!” when she has checked us out!
Absolutely no manners!!!
It was the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced and I tend not to review the places I visit but decide to rate a few places in NZ where the service was excellent but I had to include Ibis Rotorua!!
If u take feedback seriously, u really need consider training Olivia or give her a position that’s not front of the house.
As for the hotel itself, the rooms were good and all amenities were adequate. Staff seem to forget to restock toiletterie and replace towels even when u put them in the cubicle. I would have recommended this hotel if it wasn’t for the rude staff experience.

My hubby is in MIQ right now. And the rooms are worn and need upgraded. Can;t open a window. Food is awful - we can't believe we are having to pay for this. Mcdonalds for breakfast. Sandwich for lunch and cold/lukewarm food in the evening.
Not a bottle of water in the rooms (considering many people a dehydrated from 27+ hours flying) AND THEN A BUS RIDE from Auckland. Nothing! Staff are stretched to the limit and after requesting water for 4 hours he got two 250ml bottles. The same staff who deliver the food and run the hotel are the same staff who are doing all the medical testing as well.
