With not much else to choose from we stayed here one night. The best thing was we chose a room with a view which was nice overlooking the beach ( in the distance). The bed was like a trampoline and the room so stuffy and hot. Could not leave a window open because of the mozzies that were everywhere, and...

We stayed for a night in one of the motel rooms. It was a handy stopover point on our road trip around the East Cape. The room rate is a little higher than we paid elsewhere and the rooms are very dated in comparison. It was still clean and tidy though and the beds were comfortable. Staff were friendly.

The wiring in the unit we had was utterly inadequate. We could have either the stove or the fridge on, else the breaker blew! A fridge and a stove both working at the same time is a basic kitchen requirement! The kitchen tap drips. The whole suite smells musty. The WiFi does not reach the unit. It is well overpriced....

Thank you for your honest review. It was really a pleasure chatting to you for over a half hour on the deck before your departure. Hicks Bay Motel is three stars and you help us manage future client expectations. Since you didn't mention your unhappiness I was not given an opportunity to change your room. Sorry for this. Harley

A good spot to stay, beautiful views of the beach bay below, the room as comfortable, bathroom a little cramped. Dinner was good, there was a nice selection, didn't have to wait long and friendly staff. Also a bar and a shop there. (If you find this review helpful please give me a helpful vote).

The Hicks Bay Motel cabins reminded me of holidays when I was a kid. But while they might be a bit dated they were clean and reasonably priced. I thoroughly recommend the restaurant. Best fish we had on the trip. Overall - great service & value.

We stayed for one night on the way to Whakatane. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom units. Room pros- * larger then expected * great layout * mostly clean & well fit out. Room cons - * only a small fan heater provided which didnt seem to work. Made for a cold night. We loaded up with blankets...

Friendly people. Amazing location. Up high with views out across the bay. The units show their age, and have interesting design features like doors that open into each other and windowsills that slope inwards so you can't put anything on them. Lots of things in the unit didn't quite work (the blinds, the toaster, the front door latch). But I'm...

Rooms old but well presented. The meal at the restaurant was great. A lovely friendly host that made our stay enjoyable. Great views from the room too . A good shop attached toy the office for any supplies you may have forgotten.

The only place to stay at Hicks Bay! Whilst it is a little dated the welcome is warm and the staff entertaining. No complaints about the food. 60 people served with hot meals quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was heartyand enjoyed by all.

I checked in here and it was very quite, great view of the sea, the bar was nice and the staff were friendly. My room was big and warm after I turned on the heater, however the bathroom was cold all the time and the shower head was too low so I had to bend my knees to wash my...
