Very friendly and helpful hosts, a spacious and beautiful room, the location is quiet and close to the city. it is a great value for money as well. If i'm in Gisborne again i'm... More

I had a wonderful stay here in Gisborne. The home was/is beautiful and very clean and the hosts warm and welcoming. The highlight was a delicious cooked breakfast by chef Barry every morning! I would definitely recommend it. :)

My trip to Gisborne was made all the more enjoyable because Barry and Ros were such wonderful hosts. My unit was very comfortable and had everything I needed and more. I could walk everywhere from the Lodge. Barry picked me up and dropped me off at the airport and was always kind and helpful. And the breakfasts!! When Barry realised... More

We stayed with Barry for 3 nights in Gisborne. We've stayed in a variety of places across the globe and I can honestly say Barry was the most generous and welcoming host we've ever had. We had done a long car journey around the beautiful East Cape, but when we arrived Barry was ready with some cool beers and had... More

Fantastic stay, Barry and Ros were so wonderful, I stayed 3 nights in the outside unit, which had its own decking area, it was self contained, modern, quiet and felt private. I was warm in the evenings, with plenty of blankets if I needed them, but didn’t need to. I found the bed very comfy and felt so relaxed and... More

Host and hostess, Barry and Ros Thomas looked after me superbly, providing exemplary service during my 6 day stay in Gisborne. Their kindness went well beyond anything I have experienced before and they most certainly deserve the accolade of First Place 2015 Certificate of Excellence Trip Advisor Award which I spotted on display in their dining room. I went there... More

We found Barry on his bike at the Information Centre! His historic home was walking distance from town, easy accessible with a favourable tariff and a welcome not to be beaten. We stayed 2 nights wishing we had more time.... Comfortable, private accommodation with en suite maintained independence while our host gave interesting information about places in the area to... I’ve stayed four times at Surf City Lodge and the service and accommodation has been exceptional on each occasion. I will continue to use this when I visit Gisborne and highly recommend it. The hosts are very friendly and will go to any length to help their guests. The cooked breakfast is to die for and I look forward to... More

This accommodation place does not have credit card or eftpos facilities which can be quite inconvenient. I was not given the room I had booked, but a self contained relocatable well furnished caravan type about ten metres from the main house. This accommodation was clad in corrugated metal and the wind and branches hitting the roof and sides kept me... More

At Surf City Lodge we have a well known, hard earned and respected reputation for ensuring guests receive an above expectation, warm and memorable experience when they stay with us. Unfortunately on this occasion due to a number of factors, including a violently wet and stormy night, we could not meet our normally high standards - although our other guest... More

It's been more than two years since I wrote a review of Surf City Lodge, so I thought it was time to report that the high standards set by Barry and Ros are being maintained in spades. I've stayed at the Lodge 5 times a year for 4-5 days at a time, enjoying Barry and Ros's friendly, relaxed company. Barry's... More
