This was my first encounter - being a pleasant surprise. I called very late and John was awesome, nothing was a problem just drive to the front door and we'll work everything out. I had two nights there and my friends were welcomed into their home and made feel very comfortable. On the first morning I was running late and... More

I had to be in Auckland with a client for a stressful day in the High Court in April 2016 and we decided to stay at a B&B. This was a new experience for me, would usually have stayed at a Hotel. However, this experience was totally amazing. Not only were we only about 30 metres from the door of... More

John and Mel make every effort to make your stay enjoyable, exactly what a B and B should be like . John has a wealth of local knowledge and is happy to help in anyway, we would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was delicious, as much or as little as you like. The house has been lovingly restored and is... More

Great welcome to this beautifully restored Edwardian! John and Mel made us feel right at home for the two days we had in town. Parking for the car was great as we didn't use it during our stay, able to walk all over the CBD from here. You could see that John had put years of hard work and love... More

Host John has passionately rescued this elegant family home and restored it into a comfortable mid city residence. It is located in an architectually significant precint, opposite the high court and ajacent the university and a short walk( or descent) to the harbour. The house is full of aniquities such as kauri furniture, maps, drawings, photgraphs, lace tablecloths and old... More

A house built in early 1900s, modernised but has kept period style. An interesting and comfortable place to stay with very attentive and knowledgeable hosts who are keen to make your stay as enjoyable as possible.

We spent our last night in New Zealand at the Braemar and wish we'd spent more time there. When we go back, we'll certainly plan to stay there again. They welcomed us with a glass of wine and a very sweet puppy -- a miniature poodle. Given that I missed my two pups tremendously, I enjoyed theirs. They also provided... More

Central location and gracious hosts John and Mel. Updated 150 year old house. Delicious breakfast. Would go back of we ever get back to Auckland. John helped us get around town and gave us excellent suggestions regarding places to eat and visit.

Thanks for your kind words, it was our pleasure to have you and Marcia here with us. Just a note "Braemar" was built for John Russell Gray and his family in 1901 which makes it younger than you think, only 115 years now. It is the only scheduled heritage house in the center of Auckland still in residential use and... More

Our second visit and it was a lovely stay. This 1900 building is a treasure. Our hosts could not be more hospitable. The rooms are smallish and without all the modern facilities but comfortable, the food excellent and all other guests most amenable. Breakfast was fun. The accomadation may not suit those who want private facilities but We will go... More

I travel a lot and am used to the anonymity of travel. So, when I arrived at Braemar and was met by hosts John and Mel, I was, admittedly, a bit taken aback. By the end of the I was sold! Business or pleasure, being able to connect with your hosts while you are travelling is actually quite nice. Great... More

" a bit taken aback" but I'm please to see it worked out splendidly. I have lovingly restored this last surviving home right in the centre of New Zealand's biggest city, so that it can provide what it was built for - haven and rejuvenation. Our neighborhood is blessed with parks and trees so I'm glad "you got it". We'd... More
