I stayed in the eight bed female dorm and had a generally positive experience. The room was very sheltered from outside noise and roommates were considerate. Bunks are a bit creaky and there isn't a huge amount of space for everyone's bags, but the shared bathrooms are clean, showers good and kitchen usable. WiFi was also good enough for video calls and films. The surrounding area is a bit intimidating after dark and the hostel is tucked away up a random concrete staircase. I didn't have any issues though. Basically, it's a simple no frills hostel which does what it says on the tin and is in a good central location.

Booked a private room, cost NZD $51 per night. It was clean, quiet and reasonably spacious. Location was good with bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and laundry all nearby. Wifi was reliable. Recommended; Would definitely stay again.

Beds were shakey and uncomfortable. Light holes in roof means the rooms are lite all night by the moon which is annoying to sleep. Tiny rooms so not much space to move, tiny lockers so stuff is everywhere 🛏️ Lounge is ok though, there's a TV with sky. Kitchen was clean. Bathrooms and showers are clean 🚿 Alcohol free hostel, so be prepared 🍺

We were a group of 3 that arrived in Auckland. We stayed for 4 nights in Newton Lodge. It was quiet and very clean. There were many people that stayed here for a long time so it felt like they were some sort of a family. There was some confusion in when we had to leave. But in the end we thought we had to check out one day earlier then what we had payed for. We already had booked plans so we thought our money was lost. But the guy at the reception made it possible that we could get our night on another day and he made it possible. Excellent service!

The outside of the hostel can make you a bit scared but after pass the upstairs door you will find a sympathic cheap place to stay. Free coffee and tea, camera everywhere but safe place, near from the center and good bars. Drinking on outside front stairs is forbidden, ahahaha :)

I suppose backpackers are a bit noisey with people coming and going at different times, but this was even more so It's close to K road, and the CBD Not the cleanest place As previous users have stated, lots of rules but necessary to conform with regs, but they do shove it down your throat a bit Would I stay again, probably not

I had a great time during my 5 months stay at newton Lodge The hostel is very clean, comfortable and central that a lot of people choose to stay here longer than a few days. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. Raccomanded

Been here over a month and they still charge you 50c to print off 1 piece of paper for proof of address... Kitchen needs massively updating (2 hot plates for over 60 people), sofas are old and worn with springs almost coming out of the cushion, beds creak even when breathing, pillows are dreadful, staff are rude, showers are good, washing machine is cold only (doesnt clean anything), even though wifi is free its still awful. 8 and private bed dorms have NO WINDOWS!!

the room to myself was so big, mainly as the beds are bunks & the showers, bathroom & toilets were clean enough, but with them not allowing guests into the rooms (after 9pm) that the customer is in I felt was a crazy, that end of the day that their rules. as I had a room to myself I had have to use 2 pillows for my comfort. the location is good, especially if you want to hit K Rd at night, but if you want to stay there just be aware you will need to walk up a flight of stairs to even check in. the only reason I booked to stay there was mainly the price

It is going to be difficult to say a lot on this guesthouse: clean, quiet, well located and cheap- nothing particular. I slept in a dormitory, I had a locker which was helpful. I did a late check in thanks to the mail I had received indicating me the digit code and details-convenient.
