This hostel is a budget backpackers (the decor is a bit run down) but its great value for your money and includes a free small meal each night. You can upgrade to a full size portion for a few dollars. The hostel is centrally located, near the bottom of Queen Street and has plenty of activities.

The worst hostel I stayed in in New Zealand. You get what you paid for. The kitchen in the apartment is small and dirty, the hostel is no really clean. The staff was ok. I wouldn't recommend going there if you can afford a bit more.

Price was honnest, the atmosphere was nice with travelers from all over the world, but there is a lot of noise at night because of the bar downstairs. Beds were comfortable and I had a dormitory with 4 beds which was nice. Probably a very good backpack if you're looking for friends and party.

The hostel itself is pretty gross. I'd just flown in from London so got a private room, a complete rip off and not worth the money at all. The room was inside a little apartment, it only had a bed, no chair, or table or anything to put my stuff on except for the floor, didn't even have a window... More

I have never visited such a disgusting hostel. My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights, we tried getting a refund but were refused. Showers are gross, beds are thin, rooms smell like foist and floor is damp. Manager's rude. Definitely won't go back here.

Stayed for a few nights in a 4 bed girls room which was in a nice little 'apartment' bit - it was helpful to have a fridge just for a few rooms rather than the whole hostel and the same for showers. The room was small but fine for a few nights although the beds were quite uncomfortable and the... More

Stayed in 8 bed dorm was tiny not even enough room to all put bags down and see any of the floor! Mattress were so thin and uncomfortable So so so noisy with the bar downstairs and general street noise at all times of the night and early hours and inside with the fire doors all slamming shut. There are... More

we didn't stay at the hostel, we just went to the bar which is inside the hostel. it was pretty good, prices were reasonable and full of travelers as well. the bar has its own pool table, and also tables outside of you are a smoker. it's in the city center so the location is perfect.

I didn't got a locker for me until my toommate gave hers; receptionist told that they are repairing them and suggested that I bring all the valuables to the reception. And wifi which I paid (1day); did work less than hour. Bed was horrible; unstable and mattress was a joke. Reception guy was friendly but it doesn't make up for... More

Second time at the fat camel, great location. 24hr reception is a nice plus, as is the free 'snack meal' they give you. The no-alcohol in the rooms rule is SUPER ANNOYING, but they want you to use their bar downstairs instead. Kind of feels like an old student halls where they've turned the bedrooms into dorms? You're almost staying... More
