We were looking very last minute for a place in Auckland to stay and City Garden was one of the only places left with rooms. We stayed for 3 nights in a tiny twin bunk room with shared bathroom. With better management this could be a great hostel, but as it is we could not recommend City Garden to other... More

Former house of the Queen of Tonga, extended and with outbuildings. Main house divided into rooms and dorms. Tents in gardens. Full facilities, incl wooden dining table in area covered by plexiglass (it sometimes rains in Auckland). Self-service laundry. Friendly staff who didn't complain when we locked ourselves out at night and they had to drive over and unlock the... More

We booked this hostel based on the reviews on trip advisor. Neither me nor my partner are strangers to hostels, we've both stayed in a fair few before and know they can be a mixed bag. But with the mostly positive reviews on trip advisor we believed this would be one of the better ones. It wasn't. We only stayed... More

We came back here again after traveling NZ for 6 weeks. This is just like home for us away home. We have stayed for 11 nights here. It was comfortable stay with nice hospitality. This hostel is already good, and is getting better year by year. We will come back next year, too.

PAY NO ATTENTION TO THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS FROM YEARS AGO!!! We arrived very late to find our keys waiting for us in the mailbox. Our room was small but efficient with a bunkbed. There are larger dorm style rooms with multiple bunks and rooms with just one queen sized bed. You can camp in the yard as well. The toilets... More

Good location to Auckland CBD and nice restaurant . Normally people take buses to go shopping or hang out into city. But I'm not city person. few... More

We hadn't made very good experiences in other hostels in Auckland and so we were very cautious were to book the second stay in there. But this Hostel is a really nice place if you want a quiet room next to the city with a very friendly athmosphere located in a cool House.

Staff are a lovely indian family. They even set us up to arrive at 4am! Good pricing on our private double room. Wood floors and gaps under the doors meant noisier sleep atmosphere - ear plugs are always good anyway. Bathrooms and showers were clean. Kitchen was outfitted decently. Other guests were orderly and straight. Decent location, about 15 minutes... More
