The Grand by SkyCity is celebrated for its luxurious interiors and peaceful atmosphere, making it an oasis of relaxation for many guests. While the rooms are generally appreciated for their cleanliness and views, a few reviewers have highlighted areas in need of updates and occasional noise disturbances.
The central location and unique amenities, such as a casino and robot room service, are popular, though some services are seen as lacking. Despite the commendations for the staff's professionalism, opinions on value diverge, with several guests feeling the cost outweighs the benefits provided.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel was centrally located and our 15 th floor room was very comfortable and spacious. The bed mattress was firm and sheets tightly tucked in under a fluffy comforter. Wifi worked well and room was well-lit and clean. The breakfast buffet was excellent and offered omelets and a variety of breads and those wonderful golden kiwis! However, the filtered coffee was mediocre with two self-service carafes instead of barista style machines. This hotel connects to a casino and a bar/ burger restaurant that delivers food to tables via robot. I did not try the higher end restaurant and bar downstairs. The sky tower is not far to walk to, but a lot of road construction nearby may affect traffic…some streets are blocked at corners making walking a bit challenging.

I was concerned before the trip that I might be paying top dollar for average service, but in fact the opposite was true...I paid a reasonable price for 5 ⭐️ experience. It started while walking up to the front door as we were schlepping our bags from the nearby bus station. The doormen came rushing out to help us and made us feel welcome. Even though it was early, only 7:20am, the front office staff coordinated with housekeeping to get us a premium room cleaned and we were in our room by 10 am. Nice job!
Our room was spacious, except for the shower which was cramped. Bed had just the right amount of firmness both both my wife and I and as it was king size, we had plenty of room.
Location is great. You are in the heart of the CBD and can walk to many sites. It is connected via sky bridge to the casino so you won't even have to get wet.
I wholeheartedly recommend this well run hotel.

Morning Star Luxury Travel arranged this hotel for us 2 nights to see Auckland and then 1 more night a week later after our South Island tour before we flew back to the States. We had an absolutely delightful stay both times. I wish I had the names of the concierge and porters who helped us with our luggage and stored my bike and some other luggage between our stays, because everyone we’ve dealt with has been the epitome of hospitality. But I did note Shaheer helped us down with our luggage today and Greg helped us arrange transport back to the airport when our original plan fell through at the last minute. Hotel was very clean, they were attentive to our requests. Breakfast was phenomenal (absolutely worth booking with the included breakfast). I enjoyed the lap pool for a workout. I didn’t use the gym this trip but I saw it on the way to the pool and it was well equipped. We ate in two of the restaurants - Masu and Metita. Both excellent! Masu was our favorite meal of our trip and Metita was the best staff! Very convenient location. But truly the kind staff made us feel more welcome than any hotel ever.

We were looking forward to staying here as it looked like a little step up on our usual stay at the Sky City - to be honest we were a bit underwhelmed - trouble at check in started when they tried to say breakfast would be extra ( then quoted some wild figure to add it ) I had been planning this month long trip for over 2 years and one of my absolute must haves was breakfast included at each location and I was positive it was in there - one of the check in people were very dismissive of my claims and we eventually ran out of patience after a tiring trip so wanted to get checked in - I decided i would look at my paperwork in more detail- needless to say I was correct and the issue was with their system and the fact that I’d booked the room a year in advance ( we argued this at check out and got the breakfast removed from the bill ) - room itself was ok nothing special but clean and functional - reasonable view ( paid for obviously) -
We did use room service and that was excellent - on time , not too pricey and the food was tasty.
Regarding the actual breakfast - fairly varied. - lacked a little quality if I’m honest for the standard and price of the hotel and a massive thumbs down is charging people for any coffee that wasn’t the disgusting filter coffee on offer
The hotel is in a reasonable area for finding a bar or something to eat - we mainly chose to stay here as it was nearest to the place we were picking up our rental car but we will try somewhere else next time we are in Auckland

This hotel is not 5 star, the rooms are tired and fixtures need updating. Paying over $800 per night one might expect somewhere to put your luggage, a sofa with decent cushions that you can actually get out of, bedside cabinets instead of some plastic coated circular arrangement attached too low to the wall. No pillow menu, bathroom door completely blocks shower unless you close it and laminate all peeling off the bottom due to water damage. Only one tiny cheap brand bottle of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner for 2 people. Absolutely disgusting unknown brand of teabags in room (thank goodness I had my own) yet they serve Twinings in the restaurant. A Nespresso machine but no pods provided so couldn’t use it.
There is nowhere to have a coffee or afternoon tea anywhere in the hotel after a morning/day out, the Terrace is only open for breakfast and the other restaurant isn’t open until 5pm. The lobby area is completely unused and wasted as a result. This is what really made me feel ripped off as we had to go traipsing round in the rain trying to find a decent cafe nearby (nothing). Husband used gym and there were unsupervised young kids playing on the equipment and running about shouting whilst the fathers were off swimming. Children should not be allowed in a gym! Then they were running around the pool area jumping in the water. Go swimming very early/late if you want some peace!
My advice is go elsewhere, we always used to stay at the Stamford which was light years ahead but obviously that’s now going to be the Marriott and isn’t finished yet, but we will go there next time

Not what it used to be. We were dissatisfied with the stay because on arrival our bathroom had not been cleaned properly, the shelf by the desk was dangling off the wall and we found a sign to say our room would not be serviced if we were staying two or more nights! The hall areas weren’t vacuumed the three nights we were there, debris all over the carpet. WTH at $350 each night for two nights and$500 for another this was ridiculous. The notice said we could request extra towels etc at reception should we need them. Room service was very slow. The valet service was flawless, polite, prompt and cheerful, worth the $55 per day. Reception was polite and said they would pass on our comments. We will think twice before staying again, it has always been our “go to” place, so we are disappointed.

Dear Leannel78 Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback following your recent stay with us. Guest experience is at the very heart of The Grand, and as such, I was disappointed to hear that certain aspects of the stay didn’t meet your expectations. Due to the current climate, we have had to make temporary adjustments to our housekeeping service, however, we have every intention of bringing back full servicing once we are able. Please be assured, I have shared your feedback with our management team to review and address, and we thank you for providing us the information we need to ensure we are always improving. Thank you once again for taking the time to provide this feedback, and I hope to welcome you back to The Grand by SkyCity soon. If I can please ask you to contact me directly, so I may know which room number you stayed in and ensure the issues in your room are resolved. We stayed here as part of a post cruise sightseeing deal in Auckland from Regent Seven Seas. The room we had was quite nice with a good sized TV (but the movies available cost $10 each and they weren’t at all new movies!?), a bathroom with both a shower and a tub (although the shower is quite small). Wi-Fi is free and fast enough. The buffet breakfast is a disappointment. The bacon was underdone and wimpy. Croissants ran out. No full sized bagels. Huge window but looking out onto office buildings. Very large thick towels. A safe. Refrigerator items for sale. Convenient to the Tower, shopping and restaurants.

I am used to researching hotels and making my own reservations, but my two-night stay at Sky City was part of a larger tour package. Given that the tour had to accommodate 120 people, Sky City was a good choice. The check-in was efficient considering the group size, the room was well appointed, and the bed comfortable.
The hotel was located close to many shops and not too far of a walk to the waterfront. I was there just a few days after devastating rains and while the city was still under warnings for more bad weather, so many restaurants were closed and there were few people on the street. When I walked to the waterfront, I was confronted with strong winds which caused me to walk back to the comfort of the hotel.
Given the many restaurant closures in the area, and faced with many hungry tourists, I thought the hotel staff did their best to suggest options that included the hotel restaurants and using room service.
The view from my room was into the rooms of another hotel. With the drapes open, I found myself looking into other people’s rooms as they looked into mine. It felt a bit unnerving so I kept the drapes closed. If I were to return to Auckland, I would most likely choose one of the newer hotels on the waterfront. My choice has to do with the view and privacy, as I found the staff at Sky City quite good.

Stayed just one night to celebrate a special occasion and we were lucky enough to be upgraded to a harbour view room on the top floor which had lovely views over the city and sky tower. Room was spacious and spotless. Breakfast was included in our rate and excellent. Parking was very convenient but not cheap. We also enjoyed a superb meal at cassia one of their restaurants and recommend you book early if you want to dine there as gets booked up quickly. Only takes 10 minutes to walk to the waterfront so very convenient although you have to dodge all of the roadworks at the moment.

Stayed at the Grand for 2 nights.
Room was large with a king bed and a couch. The room is showing a little wear and tear but nothing substantial.
Bathroom was large with a separate tub to the shower, towels were bath sheets and all the normal amenities you would expect.
There is one lift out of service due to refurb and most times the remaining 2 were quick to arrive. Mornings however were busy with a bit of a wait. One of the remaining lifts is obviously sequenced to service higher floors which can be frustrating when it is sitting on your level but not moving.
Directly connected to the Sky Tower and in an area with lots of restaurant choices and shops to wonder through.
Overall a good stay and would stay here again.

Didn't come from the cruise port. There is uber in Auckland though so I should think that could be arranged.
No complimentary mini bar.
Ooops, just seen this - hope you stayed at the Grand :)
Same deal really, you need to be facing the harbour/bridge for best view. Mention when booking.
