Stayed at Frienz for a couple of nights before heading to Rotorua. Positives: Fantastic location, very accessible, reception staff were friendly and helpful, big kitchen and places to store food, clean bathrooms. There's a lift so I could bring my bags up and down with no hassle. Negatives: Bed itself was so-so, there was a stain on the bed sheet...

I stayed in this hostel for one night as I was passing through New Zealand to head south, the rooms were okay and the bathrooms were clean however the atmosphere was dull. Everyone in my room was staying long term, they didn't even say hello and were all rude, taking all the plug sockets etc. That being said it was...

Good points about this hostel were cleaniness and the familiarity with other backpackers that can develop. But there the critique already starts: The kitchen is being closed for cleaning 3 times a day, which becomes annoying when you want to go eat at the moment and leave and won't want to wait for half an hour. But what is really...

Standard complaint from a guest who we had to ask to leave after multiple issues between himself and not only the staff but many guests also. 9 complaints in a 14 day period all with this fine german in the middle of each situation. He came across as a genuinely nice guy until something got in his way, e.g. noise...

I've stayed at this hostel long term twice now and it's still one of my favourites. If you need somewhere long term and don't want to stay at a chain its a pretty good option. Rooms are pretty cheap, beds are comfortable and showers are okay. Biggest downside is the VERY expensive wi-fi, but there are computers in the lounge...

I had to move from one hostel to another and the staff recommended Frienz.. The price was cheapest of all hostels I've stayed in, $26 for a 12 bed dorm, and location was great with good security. That's about all that was worth while about the place. I felt like I was back in Southeast Asia with how uncomfortable the...

I don't normally care that much about free wifi but I just fine free computers but no free wifi to be so strange. I did actually need to get some things done on the Internet but needed to use my laptop but no you have to pay for that. Get a grip- the entire city of Auckland provides free wifi...

So after 11 months of traveling New Zealand I had 3 weeks to kill in Auckland. A friend told me about Frienz and I thought I'd give it a go (thinking it would be more welcoming than the bigger hostels) I didn't like the fact you got 'allocated' a bed in the dorm, so you couldn't choose if you wanted...

The reception staff here were absolutely brilliant. Cannot fault the two girls that i met and talked with. The hostel is kept incredibly clean and much much nicer than other places i have stayed. It's pretty cheap and i returned once and was greeted as if id known them for years. It was brilliant!

Apart from the staff at the reception who was really nice and friendly, it wasn't the best stay I had. People in this hostel are long term so if you are a traveler who wants to meet new people, just forget it. People even didn't dare to reply my hello when we crossed in corridor or bathroom or stairs! Bathrooms...

Surprisingly clean, spacious and comfortable 12-bed dorm for the CBD. Cheap rooms, which is even better and an awesome location just off Queen Street (so less noise comes through the windows). Nice staff and silly pink building.
