Detailed Reviews
This hotel was nice enough but very expensive and felt it lacked that special something to match the price. That said it was in a very central location. Room was pleasant. Air con wasn't great. Comfortable enough. Liked that it had a kitchenette. Didn't seem to be a staircase past floor 1. Restaurant area looked nice though we didn't have time to try it. Staff friendly and professional. Parking area small but was impressed with their use of space to provide this for customers although there is an additional fee but in fairness is probably cheaper than parking else where in Auckland. Would possibly return but would likely shop around else where. No problems though.

My two children & I stayed for 5 nights in the studio + kitchenette & dining area room. It was very affordable & close to everything we needed. We had no issues with our stay & when we needed help, the kind staff were available 24/7. We had a little accident with the baby at around 8pm & needed a fresh set of sheets & blankets, the staff promptly collected the soiled sheets & replaced them with new ones, which I was very grateful for. I would definitely stay here again!! It was unexpectedly fabulous for the price. Highly recommend!!

My partner, myself & our wee Chihuahua found ourselves needing a place to stay in the city last minute. With a dog it is very difficult to find good accommodation. The Auckland City hotel provided lovely clean rooms with comfortable beds one for us & one for our dog. They even had a water & food bowl for the pooch too. We normally bring our own but weren't expecting to stay the night. It was supposed to be a day mission so this was a very nice touch. Exceptional value for money. The location was amazing right in the city! Walking distance to everything you need. Staff were amazing, customer service on point!! Each staff member I interacted with was very helpful & all very friendly! There was parking on site for a reasonable rate & a delightful breakfast that was included with our room. We highly recommend Auckland City Hotel & know where we'll be staying when we visit Auckland next.

The room was really clean and comfortable. If there was people in the neighbouring rooms we couldn't hear anyone. The continental buffet breakfast meet the expectations and if pre-booked was only $10 p.p which is unbeatable in Auckland. Location is extremely central, only 1.5 blocks away from the Sky Tower. The restaurant has a huge personality and nice vibe.
Highly recommended!

The location is great. The downside is the parking you buy is a lottery as to getting a suitable space, If you have a midsize or bigger car good luck, some control here would be better no jus a free for all or park where you like,
We needed our bedding changed as my wife woke up with bit marks on her face off the pillows. We complained and they bought us a couple of pillow slips at first then took till 4 pm after a second call to come and change the bedding.

Reasonably priced clean rooms and friendly helpful staff. I recommend paying the extra $25 NZ when you check ✔ in for breakfast.
Try and make your reservations far in advance because the do book up. On my second stay I got a room that included a kitchen. It was convenient having a refrigerator, microwave, and stove. The kitchen was furnished with pots and pans and disposable plates and silverware.

Location wise it is a stone throw from skycity so it is very convenient. However the flipside of the coin is it can get noisy at night. Service is good, nothing to fault about. Room is relatively spacious and it is really cheap (sub $100 per night) for the time I stayed there. Room doesn't have installed heat pump but instead they have panel heater and the portable aircon. For the few days I stay the weather is quite mild but will be interesting to see how it fares during the summer.
Rating is difficult:
GIven the price I paid I should give it 4/5
However this hotel advertised themselves as a 4 star hotel and it is quite substandard if I compare to other 4 stars hotel. To me this is a 3 to 3.5 stars hotel.
At the end I decided to rate against its star rating - as I am sure pre-COVID this hotel will charge for much more than what I am paying now.

For people wanting to experience what a trip to North Korea is like without the threat of physical torture, step right in to Auckland City Hotel. Highlights include enticing views of a dystopian future out the back windows, pasta sauce stained duvets and the 4am wake up noise in a non-NZ dialect. All this is complemented by the general uncomfortable seediness of Hobson Street, making any chance of romance off the menu.
We booked for three nights, left after one and were happy to write off $160 rather than spend another minute in the soul destroying room we’d paid for. If this is what 4 star accomodation looks like, I’d dread to see 1, 2 or 3.

The Auckland City Hotel was great for the price. Its clean and comfortable and the staff are really helpful. I would choose to stay there again. They offer a breakfast service which is very reasonable and a bar and restaurant with a good selection of food.

Stayed here for a week, and had a great stay. The team goes out of the way to make sure that they make the stay as comfortable as possible. Would highly recommend this hotel. The hotel has a coin operated laundry too, which is super helpful for longer stays with kids.

Absolutely YES
Hi. Sorry for late reply. I didn't notice if there was a parking area near or in the hotel. I used other transport when getting around the city. Better to contact the hotel directly for this enquiry.
Hi Global,
Sorry for the delayed.
Hotel was not aware of this additional charges hence we contacted the taxi company about it. They mentioned that the additional cost is due to above average luggage load. Anyway, we told them that this should be mention and convey to guest in advance.
In conclusion, the taxi company is happy to refund the additional $20.
Tripadvisor does not allow email or contact number in this chat room, hence please contact hotel and ask for Mr AK to process the refund.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused
Victor
The waterfront is just 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
However if you want to swim, the nearest beach is in Mission bay which is 8.7km from hotel. Thank you
