People who prefer nature to busy cities will enjoy alot. Plenty of outdoors activities even pétanque ... Sue is a wonderful cook, she likes french food, good cheese etc ... and David always offers some good wine during dinner . Just love The place ❗️❗️❗️ Sue And David are my friends since my First stay at Mairenui, 1997 I guess... More

Was awe by the interior of the Villa upon checking in. Comes with around 4 rooms which can sleep up to 10 people easily. I was drowned by the rustic and serenity of the 100 years old Villa and the surrounding. Despite isolated from the outside world, the villa is well equipped with kitchenette and heater. Throughout our stay, we... More

We stayed at Mairenui Villa for 3 nights to get away and have a "nothing to do at all" break. The Villa was just the break we needed. It was beautiful and idyllic. Sue greeted us on arrival and walked us through the restored Villa. My husband and I had a lovely few days sitting on the verandah gazing across... More

We stayed at Mairenui for a night, and we remember it fondly. We were a couple, so we stayed in the suite attached to the main homestead where David & Sue live. The place is a huge farm, with horses, sheep, dogs, and gardens that they've maintained for decades, with care that reflects in the beautiful landscape. We were treated... More

Our third visit in 10 years and made to feel like old friends! Relaxed and informal, yet the food has to be the best in the north island, with lively company and conversation. With their natural hospitality, we will have to try one of David and Sue's French adventures one day.

Not to imply we weren't planning to enjoy ourselves, but this was our first visit to Mairenui and we were unprepared for how idyllic and well-appointed our two night stay in the Villa would be. Arriving in almost total dark just before 6 on Friday evening, we found the lights on and wood stove blazing. Comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen (on... More

I and two friends recently visited, it was my third visit and their first. I had tried to describe the lovely feeling of being at one with nature at this lovely tranquil spot. They are now aware of the special qualities of this place. We stayed each time in the Villa, a rustic, unpretentious time capsule. A glitzy five star... More

We stayed just one night at the villa with our two young children aged 2 and 5. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here - the house is beautiful, interesting and it is lovely and different to stay somewhere so historic. It was amply stocked with linen and towels and the kitchen had everything you could need. There was even... More

May 2014 we, an elderly French couple, spent 2 nights at Sue and David 's homestead and we loved every minute of our time there. Acommodation itself was comfortable and charming; food was excellent - Sue is an expert cook and David makes sure to provide the right wines; but what makes it even more of a treasured memory is... A fantastic (and unique) experience with very gracious hosts. Fine dining with a strong continental theme - better than most restaurants and far more personal. Ideal for a short private holiday, or as in our case, a business retreat. I cannot recommend Mairenui highly enough.
